I wonder, since they made the Boimler clone seems so much more aggressive, if we'll see shades of "The Enemy Within" begin to formulate in the clones character.

Perhaps another reason why they created him?

Troi isn't in this season at all according to Mike, they couldn't find a way to fit her in apparently.

I had assumed that the Borg Boimler was a dream or Holodeck sequence... but now I'm wondering if William Boimler is going to wind up assimilated.
the shuttle running from the Cube in that trailer appears to be the same design as the one they used in this episode so maybe.

"Love instructors?" Ugh. Some things are best left in the past.:barf2:

Correct. As I proposed four years ago, love instructors should have been a necessary part of the Discovery crew:

Or like how Hoshi was recruited onto Enterprise while teaching a language class in Brazil, maybe the love instructor can be recruited to Discovery in the middle of his outdoor class in the park.

Then every week, James the Love Instructor can offer lovemaking alternatives to the current dilemma in the briefing room.

Love instructors. Can anybody give an explanation for what that means beyond being an escort service?

I liked this one a lot.

My biggest criticisms of the episode would've been Mariner's characterization and the badass Titan officers who thought the E-D was lame... but those were actually addressed in the episode itself.

Poor giant clone Spock. We hardly knew you.
I love that Mariner finally got taken down a peg. The ego was just all over the place in the first season, and she never learned anything. It was all "I'm just such a great officer but I don't know what I want," but now it's "I've been going blindly into things heedless of the consequences, why not show some humility and ask someone else for an idea?"

All of the easter eggs were funny. I only wish they could have gotten Saul Rubinek for the episode.

Just finished this one, Really enjoyed it! My favorite thing for the episode had to be the imagery, the climbing on skeletons, the shots of the space station The Cerritos and all the various collection rooms. Kayshon was also a welcomed treat really showing all the little practicalites when comes to The Tamarian language. Now I didn't care much for conflict between Jet and Mariner and the resolution felt cliche and overdone to me. Overall I gave it 7, cant wait to see more!

I don't believe it has ever been explained. The TMP Novelization by Gene says Kirk's first name was after his uncle and his mother's first 'love instructor'.

...His uncle was his mother's first love instructor?

I'm glad they dropped that one and went with the second name choice instead.

Timo Saloniemi

Well if it's Kirks father's brother then it's not as bad as what you would assume when you first hear it
What Boilmer said at the end about the Titan being just one heavily serialised adventure with unexpected twists.
I even thought the plot about Mariner always wanting to take centre stage was a dig at Disco

That was a good episode.

I was sure they'd find some excuse to just demote Boimler back to the regular cast, I'm glad they did the transporter duplicate thing instead. Even if it is kind of a copy of "Space Beth".

I also liked the way the writers were basically saying through the characters "There's room for both dark serial stuff and light exploration stuff in Trek".
Surely it's a copy of Thomas Riker.
Technically it's a copy of Boimler which is a copy of Tom Riker and copies of copies always turn out wrong or evil

@TimeIsAPredator, please try to use the multiquote feature instead of posting that many times in a row. Just hit + Quote on every post you want to reply to and then the Insert Quote… button to combine them all into one post. Thank you.
