Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

Now if the new movie gives a really uncomfortable closeup of Yueh's mouth saying "remember the tooth! the tooth! the toooooth!" all will be well.

If anyone wants to get me a gift, here's a suggestion:

The thoughts that went through my head when I followed thel link:
Wow, that's pretty cool, I wonder how much it is.
*clicks the reserve a copy button*
Holy shit, nope. I can barely justifying spending $20 - $30 on other Art of... books, there is no way I'm spending almost $600 on one.
Prochnow was good with what he had to work with. If Feyd had been written better, i think Sting would have been up to the task, certainly better than whoever it was that did it for Scifi.
That reminds me, have they said what's going in with Feyd in these movies? Is he just not showing up until pt. 2, or are they merging him and Rabban?

It's been said he's still appearing, but not until part 2. Which doesn't make much sense. Fan theory is they're probably combining him with Rabban since his role has been significantly beefed up, but since there isn't even a finsihed script yet they're not saying that to keep their options open.

I've said this a few times before, but they've got their work cut out for them making us believe Chalamet could beat up Bautista.

Edit to add:. It's the autographs, it's actually a reasonable price to pay considering them. I'm sure if you went to a con you'd be paying at least the same amount (probably more, and it would have to be a major one, like San Diego or NY, I doubt they'll be appearing at local ones unfortunately), and not getting the fancy book too.

To try and head off this new rumour, yes an Italian news site is quoting Villeneuve as saying Zendaya is the protoganist in the next film (if it gets made). HOWEVER, it's probably a mistranslation/typo. Seriously, this is how the article starts:

"On the Friday of the Republic there is Dune,
highly anticipated film by Denis Villeneuve
(Blade Runner 2049, Arrival) which will be
.presented in Venice
The article obviously talks about the difhcult

processing and the director's decision to
:shoot on location"

https://www.italy24news.com/entertainment/news/amp/51413

English is not their strong suit in general, and they translated this quote twice. Likely he meant "a protoganist" since she is reportedly barely in the first movie.
If it's true that she is barely in the first movie then he is probably just telling people "don't worry the up and coming huge Hollywood megastar will be in vol. II a lot more

General rule of thumb: if they don't show you what the price of something is *before* you click the reserve/order button, then you probably can't afford it.

If you can tell/show me what Sandworm you had, I'll 3D print you a new one and send it to you.

Wow, I appreciate the offer. That's kind of you. It is covered by insurance though so if I want to replace it I can repurchase it from the original buyer and it will be reimbursed. Plus, I'm not in the US so shipping is probably way more than the value.

New interview with Villeneuve, lots of new stuff. He's optimistic there will be a sequel (vs his December position that the franchise was dead) but it still needs to make money at the box office. He is still unhappy with the HBOmax decision and how WB went about doing it. He is currently writing the sequel. Caveat, every movie nowadays has a sequel "greenlit" a day or two before release as a PR scheme (coughBeyondcough) it means nothing until the dollars are counted, and there's no telling how much this new optimistic attitude is putting on a brave face to drive up hype and how much is legit. I'm hoping it's legit.

They tag the bit that's gone viral about Chani being the protagonist in the next film (I stand by it being a translation of a translation being the issue, and it's just clickbait) but don't ask him about it, suggesting this interview was done before that came out

If Feyd does appear in Pt. 2, hopefully they'll at least throw in some references to him in Pt. 1, so he doesn't just suddenly pop up out of nowhere.
Chalamet vs Bautista would be interesting.

OK, I understand.

I don't know what would be weirder, having the Baron talk about his beautiful nephew we never see in the movie, or his nephew randomly showing up in the 2nd movie without previously being mentioned. Either way seems awkward to me.

It can be done right. Think of how Faramir talked about his father in The Two Towers (albeit only in the theatrical cut). The viewer sees how important that person is and the kind of an effect that relationship has on Faramir, but we don't meet Denethor until The Return of the King. I think there are other good examples of such a situation and how it was handled right but I'm blanking on them right now.

Yeah, but those are both examples of overlords being kept in the shadows & built up for later reveals. That's not Feyd. He's a conceited, arrogant, impetuous teen whose only importance are his genes, his role as a tool of the Baron, and to give Paul someone to fight in a climax - although the real climax to me always seemed Paul vs Fenring, and Fenrings decision not to kill him - since Feyd wasn't a real threat.

Just seems weird to talk about him without him being there. Not saying it can't work, just that I don't know how it will work without being awkward.

In the case of the Emperor, yes, but that's beside the point for Denethor. The point of establishing who he was before meeting him was about what kind of man he was and, more importantly, what kind of father he was to each of his sons. The viewer already has a strong visceral feeling of who Denehtor was before ever meeting him. That's the point I'm trying to make here.

I still see a big difference between a prince (essentially) talking about his dad the king (essentially) who is also a big driving psychological force is his life vs. figuring out a way to drop your teenage nephew into conversations of your world conquering plans without him being there:shrug:

"This is MY DUNE. Oppress the Fremen Rabban, so I can let my other, teenage nephew that we're not going to show, take it over as their saviour, maybe kill you to earn their trust, and then rebel against the Emperor!"

But that's just me, that's fine, I'm not trying to convince anyone:beer:

It has now been confirmed confirmed that Chani is not THE LEAD in Dune part 2, but the female lead, and Paul is still the main character. Her being the lead was a translation error. Multiple sites are now updating their original news items to provide this clarification. Here are a couple:

https://www.indiewire.com/2021/08/denis-villeneuve-dune-2-zendaya-protagonist-1234658258/

https://www.ign.com/articles/dune-part-2-zendaya-lead-character-in-sequel

"What a difference an article makes.

Dune director Denis Villeneuve recently revealed Zendaya will play a leading role and not the lead role in the planned sci-fi sequel, as we originally reported here."

A good reminder that if stuff is a double translated and seems pretty obviously wrong, it probably is. Also a good example of how sites jump on pretty obvious mistranslations/mispoken words and turn it into clickbait.

Randomly showing up is far worse.

How many YouTube meltdowns were there?

I would bet a lot, from the amount of people posting about it on Reddit, despite it being just so, so obviously a mistranslation in the reporting. People were even arguing there was no way it was a mistake, it must be true:rolleyes:

I wish I could say I was surprised at the websites repeating it without even mentioning that it was probably an error after it got popular on social media, but I'm not.
