Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

I watched the videos, and the Paul, Leto, and Duncan ones are just footage from the last trailer, but the Jessica, Gurney, and Yueh ones do have new footage. Most of the new Jessica footage appears to be from her meeting with the Reverend Mother on Caladan, and a little from later. The new Gurney footage seems to be from their training session we saw part of in the last trailer, and the Yueh one is all new except for a few seconds of the attack on the Atreides.
Just as a warning, their profile of Pual does feature some spolers for the later prat of the book.

I'm really hoping for a sandworm that's closer to my price range. I had a 3d printed one but it but it was lost when my house burned down.
Damn, that would be really cool to have. But, also, I'm sorry your house burned down. That's really awful. :(

If anyone wants to get me a gift, here's a suggestion:

Yeah, I saw that earlier today. I think I'll stick to the companion Hans Zimmer score he made just for that set.

OMG It Worked!

Can never not here that in McNiece's voice. One of my favorite deliveries in the miniseries, and even hearing the name "Vladimir" can take me right to that line.

Same here! Whenever I see the name Vladimir I hear it said the way he said it in that line in my head.

That, and the
"The wind speaks of demons"
"That is not the wind" exchange in CoD stuck with me hard.

I am looking forward to the new Dune movie a great deal. Once in awhile though someone just owns a role. It doesn't mean someone can't play the role later, but it .. you know. Christopher Reeve is superman, Alice Krige is the borg queen (speaking of Dune, heh).

Most roles in Dune haven't been owned by the previous attempts, but Ian McNiece will always be Baron Harkonnen for me. McAvoy's young Leto might also be on that list, but who knows.

It shows how bad that movie was that some stellar actors couldn't own any of the roles in Lynch's Dune

Prochnow was good with what he had to work with. If Feyd had been written better, i think Sting would have been up to the task, certainly better than whoever it was that did it for Scifi.

I tried watching the TV show and well done to them they did their best with what they had but the effects are woeful and the acting in the first season is so bad I couldn't keep watching

To try and head off this new rumour, yes an Italian news site is quoting Villeneuve as saying Zendaya is the protoganist in the next film (if it gets made). HOWEVER, it's probably a mistranslation/typo. Seriously, this is how the article starts:

"On the Friday of the Republic there is Dune,
highly anticipated film by Denis Villeneuve
(Blade Runner 2049, Arrival) which will be
.presented in Venice
The article obviously talks about the difhcult

processing and the director's decision to
:shoot on location"

English is not their strong suit in general, and they translated this quote twice. Likely he meant "a protoganist" since she is reportedly barely in the first movie.

The script was pretty good. The costuming was bad. Their costuming director, from what I have read, quit at the last minute and they had to rely on someone brought in at the last minute with no experience with what had been done so far, or access to the previous drawings. As for the FX, it was SciFi channel in 2001. I'm glad we got anything at all.

William Hurt was probably the biggest disappointment. He slept-walked through his scenes. It was like he turned into his character from Accidental Tourist but with less emotion. A lot of the cast were Czech and were people I had never seen before. I thought Barbora Kodetova who played Chani did a great job. A lot of the Fremen were really waterfat. Kul wahad. Alec Newman's Paul was not great, but his return as the Preacher in Children was fantastic. He makes a pretty good augment, too :D

The issues with Newman's performance as Paul were because Harrison wanted him to undergo a more obvious transformation by the end of the series, so he intentionally wrote, and then made Newman perform the role, as a whiny brat for the first half of the production. I think Harrison talks about this on the directors commentary, mentioning Newman gets all the blame for it but it was really his (Harrisons) fault. I may be wrong though, it might have been an interview.

Newman was great in the 2nd mini. Which, with a real director, was a greatly improved production all around.

That's interesting. Thanks. I did not know that. It makes sense, really.
