more details on Tarantino Trek

Yeah, I can't say any of that surprises me. And I don't see that film going well. And, even if it did, would there be the same dust up over swearing and violence in Star Trek or does Tarantino get a pass?

Pretty sure I know the answer.:sigh:

The rumours I'd heard before, where it was 3 Pulp Fiction-style intertwining stories starring Chris Pine, Patrick Stewart and William Shatner, sounds WAY more appealing than this. Gangster Planet Episode did nothing for me, although I'm sure Taratino's would have been a world apart from the TOS one.

After having seen THE SUICIDE SQUAD, I would support giving Tarantino a crack at a Trek film. Let him do what he wants. Let it be weird and crazy. That's how I felt about James Gunn's latest film. The studios giving him the reigns, letting him make it R rated, etc was probably not the smartest business decision franchise wise, but I got a really fun film out of it and that's all I care about.

Certainly was more excited about it than whoever the hell is assigned to it now.

How about Tarantino does his own thing? Like he clearly wants to do. He can do a gangster time travel movie even. Tarantino wants the reigns then go do Tarantino things and leave Star Trek out of it.

Otherwise all the whining and complaining about swearing and violence being incompatible with Star Trek will ring completely hollow.

I never had any issue with violence and swearing in recent Trek, so Tarantino indulging in that stuff doesn't really phase me. Any whining by others means jack shit to me. Trek is such a giant and unstoppable franchise anyway, that I don't really see the harm in letting Tarantino do a one-off adventure set in that sandbox.

It's not a matter of harm. It's a matter of does it fit well. I do not believe that it does. It's Tarantino wanting to do Tarantino things with Star Trek. It begs the question why be Star Trek at all when it clearly isn't the focus but focusing on Tarantino.

But, then, I'm one of the few who doesn't trust Tarantino for anything so I am completely biased.

Fair enough. For me, I love seeing more variety in Trek and seeing these different showrunners doing their own thing in PICARD and LOWER DECKS, so I would have viewed Tarantino's one-off in a similar fashion.

I'd be amused to see it happen because of how out of left field such a film would be and see fans try to make it fit.

The film itself would probably bore me to tears.

Shut up and take my money!!!

Oh, wait, never mind. They’re not doing it. But if they do…shut up and take…

yeh that reminds me of a while back the usually reliable movie gossip twitter handle 'Viewer Anon' posted these tweets (which are now deleted)
-It's funny, I signed in to talk about Tarantino STAR TREK and was immediately greeted by a story of William Shatner defending the potential for an R-rated TREK. There's a reason for that...

-Tarantino's a big TOS guy. He also loved Abrams' 2009 reboot. INTO DARKNESS? Not so much. His pitch, as I understand it, is a big scramble of stuff he loves about TREK.

-It is also, I kid you not, basically STAR TREK: GENERATIONS 2

-The stars would be Chris Pine, William Shatner, and - wait for it - Patrick Stewart. Essentially it's R-rated STAR TREK AVENGERS.

-(At this point I should say my sources on this are really solid, and if it's fake, it's a fake going around pretty high circles at Paramount.)
maybe it would have incorporated gangsters somehow?

If I'm Paramount, this is a no-brainer.

The type of movie it is makes it much lower budget than the previous films. On top of that you get the free marketing bonus of having Tarantino's name attached to it. People who don't even care about ST will watch because of QT.

I was excited about Tarantino doing a legit Star Trek movie.

I amazingly have no interest at all in Tarantino doing a gangster movie that happens to have Star Trek characters and settings. To me that’s actually really lazy and uninteresting.

Wearing Star Trek like a suit...

What bad press?
Star Trek as R rated. QT whatever he wants. Swearing and violence in Trek more than ever. Should be fun with a family friendly franchise like Star Trek...

...

As I said above, the film itself sounds uninteresting but the fallout and news would be entertaining for years.
