Is it just me, or is Star Trek going the wrong way?

And even their own talent was good. Mike Nesmith is one of the great underrated songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s.

This track alone would rank up there with many Beatles songs.

One of my favorite Monkees’ song is For Pete’s Sake (aka the closing theme) written by Peter and sung by Micky

Working the counter at Tower Records doesn't count.

I'm pretty sure the bad/good ratio in music is no different than it was 5, 50 or 100 years ago. Not every band in the 60's was at the Beatles level. Nostalgia lets us filter out the bad stuff.

Well, you do have some pointe here, even if I did a little more than "working the counter". :)

As for music, there were some real crap even back then. But the good stuff outhweighs it.

Even a few Beatles songs were crap.

Nobody's perfect, not even The Beatles.

I actually like "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Last Train To Clarksville".

Shit music is shit music in any decade. '60s shit music had a peppier, more fun sound.

Even bubble gum pop from the '60s can be a lot of fun even if it won't win any Grammys for songwriting.

Music snobbery does bother me. The people who won't listen to the Monkees or to disco or the Backstreet Boys because it's "beneath them" and "they have higher standards." Bad music is bad music but it's not usually because of genre or decade. One-hit wonders without much of a musical career recorded timeless music while Bob Dylan and the Stones made some bad recordings. Music snobs are some of the worst snobs out there.
