Spoilers Loki season one discussion thread

I liked it but, to me who's not up on comics, I had a whos this guy like the end of avenger with thanos. Was like okay, seems like a villian but who are you?
I don't disagree with your point but look how well Thanos turned out in the end. When we look back on this I think it will not be important.

I'm sure there are plenty to do a secret wars storyline at some point but I doubt they're going to stretch it out over the next decade. They'll probably try and do it (including ending it), within 2 to 4 years.
They are all booked up for the next 2 to 4 years between the movies and series. Its gonna be a while.

I assume there will be this Multiverse/Kang storyline first. Maybe they use that to bring in some other characters. Maybe even a bit of a character dump associated with the twists and turns of this current story arc. There are still a bunch of characters we have not seen. Black Knight, X Men, Alpha Flight, Fantastic Four, Hercules, Spider Woman, Namor, and many, many others. Some were part of the Secret Wars, and I think they need to get them introduced and into the mix before any Secret Wars story can happen.

And most of the villains of Secret Wars haven't even been introduced to the MCU yet. Molecule Man, Absorbing Man, Doctor Doom, Doc Ock, Wrecking Crew, etc. I think Ultron and now Kang are the only ones we have seen yet. So I think Multiverse/Madness arc first, and then maybe the Secret Wars after that.

Maybe the split timeline is what leads to mutants in future? If the timelines are merged again maybe that's how they'll do it?

As for the episode today....

..same feeling. Again it was people sitting around talking. A lot of this series has been that.
'Loki' set up a mystery early on that it paid off with a cliffhanger. It's ultimately unsatisfying that there is not some sort of resolution. It's regrettably the weakest of the three Marvel shows that were originally announced. Wanda Vision is still my favorite. Loki started so well but became drawn out.

BTW when Sylvie killed Kang didn't it seem rather quiet? No sound effect, it wasn't shown, we see Kang from behind and then his head drops. I'm wondering if these Disney Plus shows are going to have less visible violence because there will be a larger audience of kids watching. I think I noticed similar things in the first episode too. They don't show the original Loki's death. It cuts away to variant Loki's face.
There is a "shank" sound when Sylvie stabs Kang.

Kor

We don't know this stuff is happening, right now it's all just rumors, and other than maybe Doc Ock, everyone involved has been very insistent in their denials that it's happening.

It's one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood at the moment, kind of like Jon Snow dying but Kit Harrington keeping his hair and being spotted in Ireland when filming for the new season started.

We will see soon enough, Spiderman is slated for late 2021 and at the moment time flies ( at least for me).

I have no idea who Kang is. I know look it up.. But you shouldn't have to look up the main villian.. That's Rise Of Skywalker level BS.
I know, it will be explained eventually..

Most of what I know about Kang comes from reading reprints of early Avengers and Fantastic Four comics. He shows up over and over again in different incarnations. At this point, you don't even need to know it is Kang--and really, everything needed to know at this point was explained in the episode. Everything else will be revealed (I imagine) in upcoming movies and Season 2. There is a Fantastic Four connection and a Dr. Doom connection that may or may not be part of the MCU. There is a connection to Young Avengers. But I am hoping that this version is its own thing and not everything will be a copy of the comics.

I have to admit that I was seriously underwhelmed by this series.

I love Loki, and I absolutely adored episode 2... but the last 2 episodes were too strange for me. I have no knowledge of the comics, perhaps that's why the whole climax of the season felt off... and it especially feels unfinished, even for a show that's already been renewed, it felt as if a last episode is missing or at least another 10 minutes.

Not only the situation with Loki 2012, what universe is he now in? What about the TVA there? But also the way the judge just sort of left, never to be heard from again in this season.

And I actually didn't like the way Sylvie outshone Loki... but without actually learning why she came up on the radar of the TVA, simply because she was born female? Somehow I waited for the other shoe to drop, like she isn't a Loki, she acts as trap for Loki etc... and the kiss felt cringeworthy. And what about Loki's Jotun heritage - that never came up (save for his name), but wouldn't that also be a source for variants (if perhaps he grew up knowing about his origins etc)?

I know Loki's the god of lies, chaos and mischief - but that show, so far, was a bit too chaotic for me. But I kind of hope that this show will somehow find its way to the next Dr Strange movie, the name of the movie would lend itself for that.

This did make me (though not exactly earnestly) wonder if maybe Sylvie would be a foil for Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor. In the old action movies the woman always had to fight the woman while the men fought the men. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DesignatedGirlFight

In any other movie made in 2021 I would hate for that to happen, but somehow, with Taika going for that strong 80's vibes during Ragnarok and from what we've seen sofar for Love And Thunder, that might actually work. And I trust him to be able to work a selfreflecting moment in there where Sylvie and Jane realize what's going on. In a very funny way.

However, I doubt quite a lot that Sylvie will be part of Love and Thunder.

I enjoyed the finale in a quiet way with a bit of nerdy excitement at the Kang(ish) reveal and creation of the multiverse.

Then I looked at my wife who is not exactly up in Marvel lore but like the cast and premise. And realised exactly how flat this non resolution was if you're not a comic nerd. It was very definitely a "Really, was that it ?" moment.

Personally ? I didn't enjoy the 'zany' portrayal of Kang. How much of that was down to acting/writing/directing choices I don't know, but if they use the same actor again, I'd hope for a different take on the character.

I don't think you can translate the comics 1:1 to the MCU, Civil War has proven this. The MCU version kept the basic story and premise but adapted it to suit their style and they won't introduce 2nd or 3rd degree characters from the comics just because they were in the comics.

I believe the same actor is coming back for Ant Man 3 as Kang. It will probably be a very different interpretation.

They're called cliffhangers. It's an idea that's been around since the dawn of serialised narratives.

Thank you very much for your condescendence. Keep it to yourself the next time.

I know what cliffhangers are - and I'd only qualify the Loki2012-thread as cliffhanger, everything else (the judge-disappearance f.e.) as unfinished, sort of stopped during a scene.

There are good cliffhangers, and badly executed ones - and most of episode 6 unfortunately falls into the latter category.

I enjoyed it, but there was a lot of exposition, I mean it wasn't as bad as Dr Who's Timeless Children but still...

Kang wasn't what I was expecting but I get that the next time we see him he'll be very different.

Loki and Sylvie were great, next season I really do want more Loki/Mobius though because Hiddleston and Wilson really bounce well off each other. I also hope B-15 gets more to do.

Of the three shows this year I'd probably go WandaVision > Loki > Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Speaking of post-credits scenes, I was surprised there was nothing for the finale and only the confirmation for the second season as the mid-credits scene. I guess they didn't do one because we're getting a second season but it still felt weird.

Yeah that was a bit of a let down.

Also, I don't know much from the comics, but I liked this version of Kang. Not an OTT big bad, but an older version who had orchestrated this entire thing to protect the multiverse from *himself*. Good intro and great actor.

I think you will see a very different Kang anytime he appears going forward. The Kang they showed here was at his Immortus stage - IE He has already seen and experienced everything that will happen if Loki or Sylvie rejects his offer or kills him. The bit where they had a couple of minutes where he really doesn't know where things will go is a nice touch but that was only for the final choice made by Sylvie. In fact in the comics there's a number of versions of Kang the Conqueror who don't want to reach the Immortus stage/or even believe they will become Immortus.

But yeah what they introduced here was the version of Kang the Conqueror who's already been through/seen all of it from his perspective. He didn't come across as particularly 'zany' to me, But more tired/sick of it all - hence the final set of offers to Loki and Sylvie to take over the whole thing and allow Immortus Kang to move beyond all of it.

This was the first Marvel thing I felt real and visceral disappointment at. I am a casual comics person at best and maybe that is the source of my feeling. The finale was seriously underwhelming. For 2/3 of the episode we sit in a meeting in a guy's office where he gave a powerpoint presentation. I thought this would be universally panned but the opposite seems to be true: everyone is going nuts for the actor who apparently is good on another show (yay?) and that he's a long anticipated comics character that will be the focus of the next Marvel phase.

The series was a good one and I really enjoyed it but the ending just made it way less enjoyable for me. It's almost as if it was supposed to be a 1-off season like Wandavision and then some point near the end of production they found out it was going to be more than that and had to scramble.
