Harrison has always had a far deeper connection to the character of Indiana Jones and the Indy franchise than he ever has or had to Star Wars and the character of Han Solo, and has consistently demonstrated a sense of pride in and 'personal ownership' over the Indy character.

Even if this was actually provable, she still would have no influence over her successor's successor, or their successor, or theirs. And even if they all held religiously to this hypothetical agreement, the IP will still eventually fall under the public domain leaving any such contract or agreement completely meaningless.

That was exactly my point. When I optimistically joked Harrison Ford lives to 110 I could have also said the same for Kathleen Kennedy. Any talk of there NEVER being another actor playing Indiana Jones in the future is ridiculous. The “future” is a very, very, very, long time. It might not happen in our life times or anyone currently working at Lucasfilm but taking in absolutes until the end of time is absurd. Maybe by the time Apes rule the world we will see another Indiana Jones actor. Hmm Luccasfilm and Planet of the Apes rights holder 20th Century Studios share the same owner now..., maybe Harrison would be ok with an actor in Ape makeup playing Dr Jones...

Ever since this fan made animated Indy show "trailer" was made a few years ago, I've known this is what needs to happen after Indy V. Don't have to really "recast", several voice actors do really great Harrison Ford impressions.

Realistically, I'd be down with a recast. I mean, I'd be upset at first and think the usual possessive fanboy stuff, but then I would get over myself.

Think of it this way. As much as I love the character and franchise of Indiana Jones, Star Trek is a franchise that I hold much more dear. I once thought it would be blasphemy to recast Leonard Nimoy as he was the only person who could ever be Spock in my eyes. And yet, years later, here I am on my third Spock and I've loved and accepted every single actors interpretation. In other words, I got over myself. No actor ever owns a role forever.

I agree. I'm really surprised that there hasn't been an Indy cartoon. Meanwhile, there have been countless Star Wars cartoons. I would think Indy could still be heavily marketable, and it would be a great fit for Saturday mornings. In fact, I'd probably prefer it over a new movie at this point. And meanwhile, bring back the Indiana Jones games which would be a great tie-in for a possible cartoon series. They could even play up the art-style rather than trying to go the realistic route.

I don't think they will recast but I could see the son of Indy (whoever that may be) taking up the mantle with the hat being passed down as it was in The Last Crusade. No way Disney would end it here after buying it.

Seeing some pics leak on social media of a young Indy looking actor, probably for flashbacks and the man himself, Harrison Ford as Indy + mask. Crazy to think that right now they are filming Harrison Ford as Indy and Michael Keaton as Batman. What a time to be a fan.

I understand Harrison Ford loves the Indy character, but it's ridiculous for him to say only he could play him. We already had River Phoenix play him in the opening of The Last Crusade, Corey Carrier, Sean Patrick Flannery, and George Hall in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and I'm pretty sure there have been video games with other people voicing Indy. As far as I know the only video game he's ever voiced a character in is Han in LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and I'm pretty sure some of the Indian Jones games have featured spoken dialogue.

Personally, I think they are much more likely to eventually start over. If you do "Indy's kid" then the stories are forced to be set decades after Indy's most interesting era. If you recast you can jump straight back into the '30s again. Plus, I'd argue that more people want to see Indiana Jones than "someone related to Indiana Jones".

^ Yeah, I agree, plus there are still tons of potential to tell some great stories if you go back.

I’d take a new film with Indy’s descendants and writing quality of the originals over a nostalgic reboot rehash starring Indiana Jones any day.

I'd go for a bit of both. Some descendants of his (maybe great-grandkids ) discover some relics in their basement, do a bit of sleuthing of their own via DNA analysis, that lead them to an adventure of their own where they pick up where he left off.

I think I'd want to see them at least stick to a period setting, that's the one thing that really helps it to stand out, and feel unique from similar franchises.

Indiana Jones in the modern era is just Uncharted. We already have Uncharted, it's great. I want to see Indy punching Nazis.

The CD-ROM version of Fate of Atlantis, Infernal Machine, Emperor's Tomb and Staff of Kings all had full voice acting.
