Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

I'm more shocked that you've never heard of Issa Rae!

That's some fine casting and I can't wait to see what she brings to the role.

I checked her on imdb, I've never heard of anything she's been in let alone seen anything. But that's cool, I prefer people that I don't recognize generally, it's less distracted.

I wonder if they're going to play off of the Ultimate story where she was a clone of Parker and make her a clone of Miles? Or just keep it easy with the other dimensions allowing for easy updates on the character.

Yeah, that's even worse. Don't trust her to do the job without the white guy looking over her shoulder.

It makes sense that they'd partner a relative novice with a veteran showrunner. I see it as a positive step forward -- they're giving an Asian-American producer without a lot of experience or rank in the industry the opportunity to take a co-showrunner role and thereby gain more status and experience. Keep the long game in mind -- it's not about any one show, it's about increasing representation overall by giving diverse creators more opportunities to climb the ladder and eventually fly solo.

It might be like the relationship between Michael Piller and Jeri Taylor on late Star Trek: TNG and early Voyager, or Piller and Ira Steven Behr on Deep Space Nine, where Piller was technically the showrunner but he mostly just supervised and let Taylor and Behr take the lead creatively. Which eventually led to both of them becoming full showrunners when Piller moved on. The producer hierarchy is designed to cultivate future showrunners and promote junior producers up the ladder as they gain experience. So there's no reason to assume that a producer in a subordinate position at the start of the series will be there forever.

Yeah, if she's never run a show before, it makes sense to pair her up with someone with more experience. If the show is successful enough to get multiple seasons, there's always a chance Spezialy could step down, and leave to show to Moon on her own.

Oh yeah, this will crossover well with MCU Spider-man....
Who is the voice chick?
