    Hopeful
Hopefully hunting one of the other Spidey-adjacent characters.

I had the same question about Venom. But they've already made his second movie.

Origins can be rewritten. The MCU did Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver without any reference to mutants or Magneto.

There have been hundreds of Venom stories without Spider-Man in them. Can't say the same for Kraven.

I don't know about the exact number, but there have been plenty of stories with Kraven that didn't include Spider-Man. West Coast Avengers, Daredevil, Ka-zar, Black Panther, Incredible Hulk, Wolverine, Venom, Rocket Raccoon, Squirrel Girl, Captain America, Jessica Jones...

Yeah, but his origin story was intimately tied to Spider-Man. Yet they were able to give him a different origin in the movie, because stories are infinitely mutable.

Although in Kraven's case, it's far easier. Spider-Man is just Kraven's motivation. He's the MacGuffin. It doesn't matter what a MacGuffin is, it only matters that a character is willing to do anything to obtain it. All they have to do is substitute a different MacGuffin, a different prey for Kraven to fixate on, and Kraven can be otherwise unchanged. All that's required in Kraven's ultimate quarry is that he be an unequalled challenge to a hunter. There's not one thing in Kraven's personality that requires that ultimate challenge to be an arachnid-powered Spandex-wearing vigilante-cum-amateur-comedian in New York City. The only reason he fixated on Spidey was because he was created for Spidey's comic. If Stan Lee had had the idea for the character a week later or earlier, he might've ended up fixating on Iron Man or Daredevil or the Hulk instead.

Given that Kraven is presumably meant as the film's protagonist, I wouldn't be surprised if the ultimate quarry he goes after is the film's villain. Maybe it'll be a standard revenge plot where the bad guy kills his wife or his dog or something and he uses his hunter skills to exact retribution.

Meh. The ship's long since sailed on that one. They recast Hulk and War Machine. Cottonmouth is Blade. Black Mariah is a grieving mom yelling at Tony. Sousa's a modern day New York cop.

Does Sony think a solo Kraven movie is exciting for anyone? Why not have him as a villain in Spider Woman or Spider Gwen movies.

Yes, of course, but in none of those cases have the two roles played by the same actor been such high-profile characters in the same medium. Marvel Television is treated as a sidebar at best by the movies, and a lot of the moviegoing audience doesn't follow the TV shows. And Minn-Erva was a minor character in alien makeup.

    So they’ll create one.
Like people can do new things in stories, they shouldn’t beholden to the archetype that other stories did.

If they were, Superman would still be leaping over buildings instead of flying.

They must, otherwise why sink millions into it? But I agree with you. I personally don't care for the idea of him carrying a solo movie.

Like Venom, Morbius and Joker, I'll not seek the movie out intentionally.
Villains bore me and I find little interesting in them. For me, they're the obstacle for the hero to overcome and rarely enticing enough on their own. For example, I do NOT understand the Joker love in fandom, even a little bit. I intentionally started avoided comics with him in them just recently, it's just too much.

They could use some of those other Spider-Man characters they have access to; like Frog-Man or The Gibbon; maybe even Hypno Hustler. The big names that'll really get the audience excited.

I realized a way they could approach this that might still be interesting without Spider-Man, a The Most Dangerous Game kind of thing, with him using his skills to hunt down a bad guy. That's basically what he does with Spider-Man anyways, so I guess it wouldn't be that hard to just switch Spider-Man for a C-list comics villain. Like @StCoop pointed out, there are plenty of animal themed Spidey villains out there, if they want to stick to him hunting an animal themed character.
Oooo, him going after Rhino could be fun, but they're probably going to want to save him for possible future Spidey movies.

That's what I expect them to do, but that's the opposite of The Most Dangerous Game, in which the hunter was the villain, not the hero. Basically every Spidey vs. Kraven story is already a riff on TMDG. I can't think offhand of any cinematic examples of the reverse, where a Great White Hunter uses his hunting skills to track down and defeat a villain, but I'm sure there must have been some back in the days when Hollywood was more prone to portray hunters heroically.

True, and a number of other plot or and character elements. Contrary to some who often scream about that which you mention, comic book characters have gone through so many changes--especially those from the Golden Age--that new productions do not have to rinse and repeat the same, alleged "archetype" that others have repeatedly focused on. New era, new challenges, new realities to address.

Hmm, never heard of her, but it's nice to get some news.
I just checked Wikipedia, and I'm shocked to see that this is will be Jessica Drew's first noteworthy appearance onscreen since her animated series in 1979. I'm not counting the motion comics since they aren't major movies or TV series.
I'm shocked that she never popped up on any of the Avengers or Spider-Man animated series.

I'm more shocked that you've never heard of Issa Rae!

That's some fine casting and I can't wait to see what she brings to the role.
