Justice League official "Zack Snyder" cut on HBO Max

No, the last time we see him is in red and blue...and evil. Kind of fitting, really. ;)

Chronologically though, Superman is last seen in red and blue for his Shazam cameo, if that helps? I know it's not Cavill, but it is Superman. Mostly.

You've a point, clearly the costume either changes colours or he gets a different suit at some point. But really, the Knightmare scene was a possible reality.
Keep in mind that the black and white suit is probably not canon anyway, with the previous version of JL being so

Well, its interesting you mention canon. I'm planning on watching the DCEU films and in the following order - Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman '84, Man of Steel, Batman V Superman Ultimate Cut, Suicide Squad Extended Cut. Then I plan to watch Snyder Cut (if Superman's costume had been red, blue & yellow by the end It'd have watched it in a different order), then the CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths (the restart of the multiverse is why there's two different versions of JL IMO), Justice League Theatrical Cut, Aquaman, Shazam & Birds of Prey.

Interesting theory that Crisis is the reason for the change, but that would mean Oliver made things worse. :)

The actress who played the single mother waitress tweeted that she was cut from the Whedon version and wanted to know if she was in the Snyder version. Been getting a ton of positive feedback too.
So, Wheadon drastically reduced the time spent on one black character and made another one disappear completely just to add a subplot dedicated to a Russian family that almost everyone found ridiculous and / or useless?

Well if WB could get off their asses and make that MoS sequel, I’m sure they would show him transitioning back to the red and blue. We know he wears that one in the Knightmare sequences.
Speaking of the descriptive audio track, I did notice a mistake in it. At the end when Darkseid is doing his “old ways” speech, he refers to Granny Goodness as the “man with a staff”. :)
Even if we get another Superman movie with Cavil, I doubt it will be a sequel to Man of Steel. At this point they still seem to be trying to distance themselves from the earlier movies, so if that happens it will probably be more standalone, and with a very different tone from MoS.

And JJ is any less polarising?
I guess everything has to be made by no-names now so avoid backlash.

(But of course, backlash/clicks/publicity is what they're going for with black Superman)

Why would they distance themselves from Man of Steel? That movie was awesome. Truly felt like a “next gen” superhero movie to me.

It was where the character needed to go; no one wanted another attempt to live in the Salkind's past (hence the reaction to Singer's Superman Returns), or anything older than that (thankfully). Cavill's Superman needs his standalone next appearance, as he's a fascinating interpretation of the character set in more realistic environments.

But Superman and Lois is the character 20 years into his career. Very different example

Exactly. As I said. One of a MILLION places the character can go. 20 years into his career. 50 years. 100 years. 1000 years. Married to Lois. Married to Lana. Married to Jimmy Olsen. An origin set in the past like "Sky Captain", or an origin set in our far future, an origin in Russia or an origin in Madagascar. "Man of Steel" isn't where the character needed to go, it's just one of many places they could and chose to explore.

But MoS is the beginning of Superman. There are only so many variations you can do of that

...and pre-MoS, its been adapted in ways all too similar to the others, so it was increasingly stale, and as noted earlier, MoS was where the character needed to go for the world of today--where the story and the environment he would face--is set.

But MoS is the beginning of Superman. There are only so many variations you can do of that
And yet Snyder's very first appearance of Batman is him twenty years into his career. "A Superman movie" can be anything the creator decides it is. MoS showed the first steps of Superman because they chose to, not because they had to.
