Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 1 spoiler discussion!

So instead of originally becoming Steel because he was inspired by Superman like the comics, he became him because he hated him. It’s an interesting idea.

I'm so glad I'm not watching this show. Completely missing the point of a character really isn't an "interesting idea". At this rate I can't wait to see Eradicator introduced as a Kryptonian hating werewolf, or Cyborg Superman showing up as a normal human who loves Superman. Maybe Connor Kent will show up but he'll be a powerless clone of Lois Lane and Lena Luthor, or they'll introduce Krypto but he's a powerless hamster.

All kinds of things "interesting" things can happen when the people in charge actively hate Superman and the world around him.

But you barge in here slinging your "opinions" around anyways. Why are you here if you're not watching the show?

And I see you are still talking from a place of pure ignorance.

The people in charge don't hate Superman. If you actually watched the bloody show instead of doing what ever the hell it is you're doing, you'd see that.

Until you’ve actually watched the stuff you’re criticizing first hand, your opinion means squat to me.

I would give the show a go. It’s really good. Nothing like the other ArrowVerse shows.

I loved the twist of hm being Irons especially since I didn't get a spoiler on it. It was a real surprise. I also kind of like how this I think increases the chance of seeing Supergirls Lex Luthor next season or other seasons plus this is the first good chance to explore this character because the Shaq movie was crap.

I'm actually dreading any sort of crossover that might be in the works. The show feels like it's its own thing and I don't think it gains much by making it part of that larger verse and just opens up a lot of questions.

I don't know if Jon Cryer's Lex would work in this series, it's such a serious tone sometimes, and that version of Lex isn't.

Bring the S&L characters over to one of the other shows, but bringing them onto S&L I think would just feel out of place.

Well they can always adjust his tone a little to fit the show. I mean even this version of Superman feels different than how he was shown in Supergirl IMO.

When the flashbacks showed "Luthor" tinkering on the metal suit with his daughter, I started to think, "Hey, this reminds me of Steel." Then "Wait, could this be some kind of variant take on Steel, but substituting an alternate Luthor?" And eventually "Maybe he'll adopt the name John Henry Irons as an alias?" I got so close.

Their comments about whether Luthor might have a son were weird. Per the timeline established in Supergirl, Lex Luthor is roughly the same age as Wolé Parks (Cryer looking older was handwaved as the result of radiation poisoning).

The boys racing to Superman's rescue in the pickup truck felt hokey to me. Also, Lois shouldn't have to talk Superman down from punching a guy who's already out of the fight. That should be second nature to him.

Seems the character originally was going to be Luthor, until a writers' assistant pitched the John Henry Irons twist.

That's the same thing that happened with David Harewood on Supergirl. He was originally going to be the villain Hank Henshaw, and then after the pilot was shot, someone pitched the idea of making him the Martian Manhunter impersonating Hank Henshaw. It's an interesting coincidence.

Oh, I don't agree at all. Cryer's done a fantastic job capturing Lex's genuine menace and darkness. Yes, he can be witty and theatrical too, but that could be modulated.

I have a new work schedule and willing be watching everything on the CW app. Is there a consistent time when new episodes go up? Seemed 12am central time. Though years ago was much later.

So I actually learned about the John Henry Irons reveal here on a work break. Before watching episode at home a few hours later. It seems out of left field but it also works. Seems a better fit with what we knew than when Hank Henshaw became Martian Manhunter after the Pilot.

I suspected for awhile the name “Captain Luthor” was a misdirect but did expect him to be a Luthor. I would have been ok with that. But knowing now this works better. It’s makes him his own character. Especially learning they want him to be a villain who can be redeemed.

I see no problem with Jon Cryer being on this show as Luthor. I love the tone of this show. Also that it has not been overly making references to the wider Arrowverse to start. But anyone needing that all the time are setting themselves up for disappointment.

A scene was cut when Lois removed her personal items from her Daily Planet office. It showed a picture of Lois and Clark with Kara. They only cut the scene for time.

It is very possible to keep a proper balance of this show’s unique identity and tone while existing in the Arrowverse too. A lot of that is set in writing and directing. Sara Lance often felt like a completely different character on Arrow compared to Legends. Even when Caity Lotz would go back to guest star on Arrow while Legends had already embraced its full absurdist tone.

I'm happy with it. I'd been hoping that Steel would be part of this series. I hope he does get redeemed and end up as a continuing ally.

We got a marginal one here, with Lois mentioning "what we now know about the multiverse." I'm hoping for some reference to the Crisis when it's explained how Irons ended up on Earth-Prime.

Yes, absolutely. Any good character is multifaceted and can adapt to different tones and contexts, and any good actor can modulate their performance to fit.

NO PLEASE NO IN THE NAME OF WHAT IS HOLY NO! @kirk55555 please don't listen to him. This show is very bad and you don't even need to keep reading this thread to be assured about its badness.

By the way, I really liked this episode.

Cryer can do serious. I wouldn’t worry about that
