What games have really disappointed you?

Destiny

Man was the hype strong for this one back in the day and i bought it completely. I was expecting the next Halo complete with awesome story, a cool RPG like mechanic and good gunplay. All i got was a a very weak story, if you can call it that, and tons of grinding and purely cosmetic upgrades which i both despise as very weak games design. The actual game mechanics are fine but there's tons of games out there where you can run around and blast AI enemies or other players so that doesn't draw me at all.

Yep. They are sprinkled throughout, but damn, there are folks that look exactly like Borg drones.

Crusader Kings 2, mainly from the fact that the interface was so... dense and rather cryptic.

It felt like there was a good, possibly great, game in there... somewhere, but it was definitely buried under a plethora of clicks, submenu, and sub-sub menus.

I really tried to get into CK2, since the idea sounded so fascinating. But somehow, actually playing the game effectively eludes me. I was always amazed by those non-conventional strategies I kept reading on the message boards, as I never would have thought of them. I think my brain simply isn't really wired for playing that kind of game, thinking up devious tricks like that.

I have multi-thousand hours in CK2 haha, but then I love all the Paradox grand strategy games. Need to really dig into CK3 though, one of these days.

I'm a pretty big fan of GTA and Ubisoft's open world games such as Assassin's Creed (I've played and beaten all of them except Rogue and the side scrollers) and Far Cry (I've played all from 3 onwards). So, when Watch Dogs released I was PUMPED!!!... then bored to tears. I've tried this game on three separate occasions, and it just feels like such a letdown and GTA wannabe I just end up wanting to play GTA instead

I did finish Watch Dogs..... I loved the look of the world and that's about it. They had a moody story and to me it felt like it was really going somewhere then the 2nd and third game there are 3 of them now, well in those they all but abandoned the anti corporate story they were trying to tell and it became goofy and stupid, but less boring.

I thought about trying Legion because of the "inhabit anybody" mechanic, which was one of my favorite aspects of Ubisoft's Driver: San Francisco

I tried it and it kind of sucks. But they seem to have a large playerbase go figure. Just the 2nd and 3rd game seemed to have gone so far from what they were trying to do in the first one. We never did find out who the mysterious people behind blume were and why the Bellwether AI was so bad, at this point I'd say aliens and probably that's where this might even end up.


Watch Dogs..... While I love the look of the world and the open world in the original the game was way too moody and grim, but that's fine I like that, but while I did mostly enjoy the first one the 2nd and 3rd one really did seem to abandon the story they were first trying to tell.

The 2nd and 3rd game seemed to have gone so far from what they were trying to do in the first one. We never did find out who the mysterious people behind the Blume corporation were, or what they wanted, nor their mysterious AI software. I just wanted to get more out of that part of the story but they didn't want to give us more or is being anti corporate what made them change the way their story was going?

CTOS was never really explored that much and it felt like this was some kind of Samaratin or The Machine type of AI as well but those story threads were never really explored. the original Watch Dogs was as close as we will ever get to a Person Of Interest game.

Haven't played the first game, only the second, but I certainly got a big anti-corporation vibe from it, and I kind of got the impression that the one guy was behind it all. A cautionary tale about what happens when big corporations have too much reach and influence, and IMHO, that's about as big into anti-corp as they come. I was actually fairly impressed at the social commentary, which IMHO both felt sobering and refreshing, as compared to the likes of the GTA series which to me feels inane and unfocused, and the themes always feel the same from game to game. The GTA series I feel are games with mature themes, while Watch Dogs feel like games that have maturity to them, that's the way I liken them.

Lack of ability to directly command your whole party is a game breaker for me.

But also every Final Fantasy in the last twenty years.

You should have played through the first one. The anti corporate message was there in the 2nd game but seemed more toned down compared to the first one. The Blume you took down in the 2nd game was just another arm of Blume and the impression I got from the first one was it was far bigger than anyone had realized and the AI was verging on The Machine from POI, or its evil rival Samaritan. Just it felt heavier in the first game and there were mysterious people behind it all that was hinted at. For me the goofiness was just a bit much. But yes the social commentary was there. Especially that monologue about "you are the data" and how people are being sold as data.

BTW Watch Dogs is set in the same universe as Assassin's Creed. You take down one of the Abstergo people in the first game.

You know what that varies from people to people. I never had an issue with it in the first game or the 2nd game. But then I use keyboard and mouse and remap the steering to use the arrow keys, and WS for acceleration and braking.

Cyberpunk 2077 seems to the the one that has left many people disappointed. I can't say I was, but then I haven't spent a long time with it to make a decision one way or the other but so far am enjoying myself.
