The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

I would love to know what the exact wording of the agreement is, because a remake is not the same as a spin-off, but it is still a related show and part of the franchise.

Yeah, and I would guess it all depends in what vein. A spinoff would be a show set in the same universe that continues on the path of the original, sometimes with a whole new crew and cast of characters, such as TNG, and sometimes which features a character from the original to pass the baton. Whereas, a remake would be remaking those characters with a new cast and new vision, such as BSG, and this I see is where Macguyver falls into, as well as the new Magnum P.I. It's most definitely not a spinoff. It sounds like those who are going after CBS are trying to get around a loophole based on an earlier agreement. I would think that the agreement would have expired long ago.

I had wondered the loose useage of things like "reboot" when they meant sequel and other such nomenclature would eventually come back to bite someone. Looks like CBS is safe here, but they might have their publicity departments be more careful in the future.

They're making room for the Happy Days remake, where Fonz becomes a police consultant assigned to work with Detective Cunningham.
Fonzarelli will be Cunningham's CI (Confidential Informant) And it will be set in the 70's. The pilot will be directed by Martin Scorsese.

I was just thinking that nowadays they'd probably be pretty specific especially with how nebulous reboot/remake/reimagining/etc are at the best of times.

Hasn't Seth MacFarlane been working on a new Flintstones for years? Guess that's not happening.
