Spoilers The Falcon and Winter Soldier discussion

Uhhh...maybe we can speculate on what will happen, and what might be
hanging threads?
Well ep 5 already has surprised me because I was thinking anything with Sam and the shield was not going to happen until the end of ep 6. It certainly seems like building to Sam being Captain America for ep 6 in NYC fighting against Flag Smashers. Now whether this is an actual Captain America costumed Sam, or a more Captain America-ish themed Falcon costume with him using the shield I'm not sure. Falcon wings with shield makes more sense from strictly a tactical standpoint in terms of Sam not having super serum.

But from optics a grounded black Captain America may have more of an image impact otherwise it's "Hey, it's Falcon with Captain America's shield" instead of "look it's a new Captain America who is black"

You might guess the season will end with a cliffhanger--not the "will the heroes survive?" type, but one where they realize their real fight is just starting. Further, if Sharon is the Power Broker, I cannot see her being caught or killed in the season finale, as it would be a waste of a mid-level character who seemed as if she was going to make a larger footprint, considering the length of her comic book history. As a series villain, she would be elevated to more than just "agent / one-time love interest for Steve Rogers".

As with most Marvel productions, there's some Easter Egg dropped in the credits (like the one in E5), so if that tradition holds, you might see a very unexpected character receive screentime. If that happens, I hope its a more down to earth character that does not take the series too far away from its current tone.

Interesting to read the debate about which villain is more of a villain. It seems to be a Rorschach test in that one's opinion says more about the individual making the opinion than about the characters in the show. This entire series is about the layers a grey between good and evil--and it is an interesting examination of what motivates a person to do an evil act whether it is the Flag Smashers, John Walker, or Baron Zemo.

For the first time in this series, I am legitimately worried that Sharon is evil. Turning to Batroc is an alarming move, though it also wouldn't be the first time that a hero hired him to do evil things as a cover for good things to happen elsewhere. Man I hope Sharon doesn' end up being the PB. That would just suck all the energy right out of this show for me, unless there ends up being some payoff I just don't see yet.
.

I'm wondering if Sharon has hired Batroc to infiltrate the Flag Smashers, (We know Fury hired him before if I recall correctly) so may still not be evil.. Guess we'll see next week though:)

Agents of Shield was supposed to be firmly attached to the MCU.
Yeah but now you have the actual head of the MCU overlooking these things. And they've said some of the shows at least lead directly into the movies.

WandaVision leads into Doctor Strange 2 for example.

Fury didn't hire Batroc. He was hired by Hydra as part of a plot to frame Nick Fury (see Captain America: The Winter Soldier.)

That's not what that film tells us. CA:TWS tells us that FURY hired Batroc to capture the Lumerian Star, which was nominally a SHIELD boat, so that Fury would then have an excuse to send in a team to rescue it, allowing Black Widow to access the computers and try to learn what on earth the ship was actually doing.

Pierce later discovered and twisted that piece of info to try and frame Fury during the cover up after Nick's "death." The fact that Fury was slowly catching on to HYDRA's actions in the run up to the Insight launch was the entire reason they sent the Winter Soldier after him in the first place.

I don't think so. The whole thing was set up by Pierce and Hydra to discredit Fury and make sure that nothing interfered with the launch of the Helicarriers. It was a full orchestrated frame up front to back.

It really doesn't matter either way. It has no bearing at all on Batroc's good or bad guy status. He's just a mercenary. If the good guys are willing to pay, he doesn't say no.

The whole series seems to be deconstructing just what it means to be a hero or a villain. And it raises the moral issues of what it means to be a superhuman as well.

Really, Zemo's whole thing about Superhumans being an extension of supremacist thinking is the kind of thing you should be seeing in an X-Men story but they never bother going that deep.
