YAAAASSS! The trailer made me smile and "squee!" inside. This is going to be awesome! Maybe the Q / Guinan feud will finally be explained (or resolved?). And if the Stargazer features prominently, I'm sure we'll see a reunion with Beverly as well.
A combination of the fact that McAvoy played a younger Professor Xavier in the X-Men movies and McAvoy has said on many occasions that he'd love to play a younger Picard.
He's a good actor. It's not that weird for big names to do a stint in serialised TV these days either. It's quite fashionable in fact.
Getting this back on the subject of the trailer... I note that Picard is talking about how time doesn't give people second chances. But of course we know that Picard did get a second chance at his life thanks to Q. So, I wonder if this season will focus on something that has haunted Picard for a long time -- the Stargazer, Jack Crusher's death? -- and Q will somehow offer him a do-over. Are we going to see Wheaton / Wesley too?
I definitely think so. I just hope that it won't be Tapestry 2.0 - that they give it a new spin somehow. Instead of learning the lesson (again) that if something horrible hadn't happened, his life would be worse, so reset to the original events.
Jack was wearing a Monster Maroon in his message to Wes around the time of Wes' birth. By the time Jack died they were wearing the TNG S1 uniforms. So given Starfleet propensity for uniform changes at least two more between Wes' birth and Jack's death.
Remember as per Lower Decks and Discovery/Short Treks/Strange New Worlds concurrent Trek uniforms are a thing. The Wrath of Khan uniforms always looked more like a dress formal uniform.
If these clues in the teaser are not just meant to keep us guessing, there are really a lot of them hinting at the/ a wormhole/ the prophets/ DS9: - the tablet - Paradise Lost (a DS9 ep, but could also point to the "shattering" moment for Picard) - The Long Dark Tunnel (=wormhole? Plus the TNG episode it appeared in was "The Emissary") Hm, I thought there was more. Still... Time travel: - clock at 10.04 - sand in clock moving upwards - Stargazer - the tapestry from "Tapestry" - monologue about "second chances", "time is the last frontier", "what could have been" etc. What moment could he get back to? - shattering - Stargazer - "decision turned into history" ( Jack Crusher's death/ Beverly?) - Paradise Lost? (a time pre-Romolus catastrophe/ SF abandoning Romulans?)
Don't forget DS9, when Sisko was reassigned to Earth he switched back to the TNG uniform, and I think almost everyone on earth wore that uniform.
The point obviously is to have De Lancie reprise his role, otherwise, they could have hired a young lookalike and with a few CGI tweaks made it look like Q had remained unchanged.
