Spoilers Batwoman - Season 2

You must not have seen the news about Wallis Day being cast as the new Kate when you typed this.

No, I did not. Oh, well. At least the Kate character--the actual focus / reason-to-be of the Batwoman series--was not killed off.

Is shark repellant on the utlity belt really a stupid idea? :)

:guffaw:

Yes, because Batwoman--like most of the world's population--is not going to find herself in need of that...or Bat-baggies, Bat-alphabet soup containers, Bat-fly swatters, miniaturized Bat-costumes that expand in water.....

I was just as confused. Last night I posted a comment I later deleted. Basically saying where was the reveal Kate was alive. I saw the scene with the bandaged person and the necklace but made no connection to Kate. I guess it shows how little I am invested in this show to remember stuff from past episodes.

Yeah, that tunnel and necklace sequence went right over my brain. Despite my paying attention.

Will the new actress have to get Ruby Rose's tattoos put on? Will it be a Prison Break type scenario where because of all the tats you always had Michael wearing long-sleeves and stuff to not have the actor go thru the process of putting them on. Will she be scarred and then 'healed over' to explain no tats? or fewer tats...

It looked like Kate was pretty bandaged up in the teaser scene at the end of the episode, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're explaining her new appearance as a result of reconstructive surgery because of her injuries from the plane crash, rather than pretending she always looked like Wallis Day (especially considering that Batwoman's overarching narrative seems to run entirely on face-swapping). In that case, I'm expecting the scarring-and-healing thing to be the handwave for the loss of her tattoos.

Well she lost 9 years in age to be sure. Ruby is 35 Wallis is 26! ;)

I am surprised that has not come up here yet. You can not see age you say? Lost track of how often the debate if someone in the Arrowverse was to old or too young to play their character’s age. I have no issue at all.

Well, there is cosmetic surgery involved, so...

Ruby wasn't playing her IRL age.

In-universe, Kate is 30 years old at the most depending on whether or not the events of Seasons 1 and 2 (thus far) have happened in real time.

This.
Either the accident will explain the tattoos away, or she will cover herself from this point forward.

Few actors in the past couple of generation of superhero productions are the age of their characters. Two of the actors who portrayed Spider-Man in the 21st century were much older than the teenaged Peter Parker character.

I was thinking maybe the desert rose might be the agent of recovery and change.

There have been a surprising number of Arrowverse recastings lately:

Sam Lane
Morgan Edge
Jennifer Pierce
Ralph Dibny (sort of)
Kate Kane

Prior to this season, there were only a handful -- Sara Lance (whose pilot appearance hardly counts), Alura Zor-El, child/teen Kara Danvers, and the two animated Vixen characters recast in Legends, Kuasa and Chuck McCabe.

There's also Mr. Mxyzptlk, but I think his appearance change was explained in-story. Then there are the two versions of Linda Park, the bit-part TV reporter played by Olivia Cheng and the newspaper sports reporter played by Malese Jow, but it's never been made explicit whether those were the same person (it's a common name).

Let's see, most of the appearance changes are either explained in-story or can be presumed to be the result of Crisis weirdness. We can shrug off the Vixen cast changes going from animation to live action, and we can shrug off the young-Kara recasting as the result of Kara's maturation (although Izabela Vidovic is only 2 years older than Malina Weissman). So that just leaves Sara and Alura (and possibly Linda) with their change unexplained/ignored.

Her skin also appeared badly burnt.

Someone else guessed this, and I agree, they'll probably use that so they don't need to give her the tattoos.

WonderCon@Home is going on this weekend, and there was a Q&A panel with actors Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, and executive producer/showrunner Caroline Dries:

Did Kate get two inches in scare tissue to explain how she will be taller? ;)

Seriously I am not concerned about it at all. It’s minor difference. Sometimes characters are recast and height differences are huge and noticeable. Because they are standing with actors who worked with their predecessor.
Long tradition of having actors stand on things to look taller than female costars. But keeping that consistent from scene to scene when people are moving around is almost impossible.

I think you might've just inaugurated the "Bigger Kate" conspiracy theory.

LOL I have heard of the Bigger Luke theory. Though I was not specifically thinking of that with this. Glad you reminded me of it!
If there is any doubt, on the internet it can be hard to tell, it’s all in fun.
I was ready to stop watching the show last week. Hearing they found some of Kate’s remains threw me off with last scene. I did not know that was supposed to be Kate until the news of Wallis Day being cast was announced. So they have held on to my curiosity... for now.
I still not sure I like how they have handled any of this.
