Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 1 spoiler discussion!

So far it's a lot like the first season of Supergirl on CBS. I too like it a lot and hope it doesn't devolve into ultimately what Supergirl became (IE - more concerned about making social commentary then telling a actual story.)

But so far they've done a good job, and all the cast including the near teens are good.

The rural setting of this show and Stargirl gives it a different vibe from most superhero properties.

Supergirl has faced a number of threats that could take a wallop from a Kryptonian. Ostensibly, shouldn't those threats exist within Superman and Lois and I guess the other shows? That part of being in the same "verse" seems like an omission. I get that each show wants to focus on what makes sense for their own characters but from a greater world perspective it seems it should be a greater factor.

Let's be honest with kirk. It's not a show he's going to enjoy. He wants a live action cartoon starring superman. This type of show is still something he won't like, even though he's describing it wrong.

You pulled that right out of your ass. I don't want a "cartoon" (although the best non-comic book Superman media was Superman TAS), I want a show where Superman is the main character, he has his standard supporting cast, and fucking teens and High School are never involved outside of as people/places he might occasionally save. This type of Superman story is proba bly 99% of all superman stories anyway, we just haven't gotten it in live action TV in over half a century.

I don't know what weird mental process takes you from "Doesn't want teen drama in a Superman show" to "He wants a Superman cartoon" (or why you think a cartoon is a lesser form of show, the Bruce Timm lead DC cartoons are still the best adaptations of many DC heroes), but you sound like a Snyder stan whining about people not liking his murderous superman, and I don't know how you got there from what I said.

Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993-1997) says 'Hi'.

Two additional scenes in this week's online extended cut: a brief bit at the Cushings' with Sarah refusing to eat with the family, and a humorous scene with Clark applying for the assistant coach's position.

Thanks for letting me know what they were. I bought the show on iTunes (I'm helping!), and I wasn't sure if the slightly-extended episodes were exclusive to the CW website or if it applied to all the digital editions (though now that there are two regular-length episodes out, I can just look and see that the runtimes vary by a minute or two, when they'd be the same if it was the TV version). It's the latter, so I don't feel ripped off (and it's a sign the extended episodes will probably also be the versions used for streaming and physical media).

Who said anything about lesser? If you take away drama, all you have left is bad guy punching. That's a cartoon, not because animation is a lesser form, but because cartoons have a runtime of 19 minutes.

Also what does Snyder have to do with family drama?

Apparently this isn't even available to watch in the UK. The battles and effects look really cool on YouTube though. Very Man of Steel, right down to the music, camera angles etc.

Lee Toland Krieger really liked Man of Steel, so it kinda makes sense:

"I admit, I'm a fan of Man of Steel, more than maybe most people," he says. "I think if you go back and watch that movie now, a lot of it holds up really beautifully. I think the third act of that movie maybe falls victim to what a lot of giant tentpole movies fall victim to, which is kind of the 'Okay, now the world is being destroyed and we have to save the whole planet from imminent destruction,' and that's always just a tough place to go and make it still feel intimate. But the intimate moments of that movie I think are really beautiful. We certainly looked at, in particular, the [movie's] suit. The suit, obviously, is a great looking suit, despite people thinking it was somewhat heretical to lose the underpants. I think now it sort of seems like the gold standard. Certainly the cape action, a lot of the practical cape and the [digitally-rendered version of the] cape work was something I don't I fully appreciated until we were in the weeds on it, but is really wonderful and lends itself to some of those more heroic moments."

The iTunes versions are the same extended versions

You are 100 percent correct,* but of course L&C also doesn't meet the kirk55555 standard of only being a Superman show if the format is as bog-standard as possible. Imaginatively and cleverly recasting a Superman series as a romantic comedy is as verboten as making it a family drama.

I mean, I love the George Reeves Adventures of Superman series as much as anybody, but fives apparently wants that exact same show every damn time. No other format or genre spin on the character will do.

Personally, I like that when I look at my shelves of Superman Blu-rays and DVDs, every series offers something original and distinct. And Superman & Lois will soon join them, and continue that legacy.

* Except it's Lois & Clark. Honor the ampersand!

MoS would have been a lot better if they just left out the final fight between Zod and Superman.

Isn't the Adventures of Superman that show about the Daily Planet that features Superman in the last 10 minutes of every episode? (George Reeves wink)
Pretty much. But Reeves is every bit as delightful to watch as Clark as he is as Supes, so it's all good.

You might recall, after superman returns came out, people were nearly unanimously clamoring for a villain that superman can punch. Snyder gave them exactly what they asked for, and they started complaining about too much punching...

The thing I disliked about the Zod-Supes fight is that if IRC Supes doesn't ever try to draw the fight out of the city.

Punching's overrated. He didn't punch anybody in Superman '78 either.

(Though admittedly, I did dig the punching in this week's episode.)

Nope didn't hear or read about that, if I want a superhero that goes around punching a villain I'll watch Batman. That's not say we haven't seen superman punching people before i.e. in Superman's II and IV if memory serves, but leaving the fight scene out of MoS between Superman and Zod would leave open the opportunity for using Zod in a sequel (in a way other than BvS)

Huh those scenes aired on TV in Canada. So I guess Canada gets the extended cuts. Probably because we don't have it on an online service.

I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around "Lana Cushing." I've never known her as anything but Lana Lang. Thank goodness Lois kept her maiden name.

"Cushing" is also a weird choice of name for her husband. It makes me think of a debonair and menacing English actor, not a blue-collar small-town firefighter.

Also, am I the only one who finds it a strange coincidence that two different Arrowverse shows currently airing feature organizations called the Crows -- the security firm led by Jacob Kane in Batwoman and the Smallville High football team here? Gee, maybe it's just as well they cancelled the Superman-Batwoman crossover, or we might've ended up with a "How do you know that name?" in-joke.
