US Space Force Ranks? [Speculation]

I'd like either #3 or #4 if the angle of the chevrons was a little larger. I prefer "broad" rank insignia over "skinny".

Good point, they do look kind of cramped.

The "Space Force" is not a separate branch. It's under the Air Force, just like the Marines are under the Navy.

The Marines are not under the Navy, they are separate armed forces within the Department of the Navy. Likewise the USAF and USSF are separate armed forces in the Department of the Air Force.

Some years ago there was legislation to change the name to "Department of the Navy and Marine Corps" but supporters of the historical title won out.

You are getting "branch" mixed up with "department".

The "Department of the Navy" has two separate branches: the US Navy and the US Marine Corps. The USMC is not "under" the Navy.

They need a clean break like the Air Force did with the Army.
That's a good point. I like 1 because it incorporates their logo in quite a bit more. I think the curved upper part is evocative of Earth's atmosphere so I like it in terms of style. 4 is OK with a more simplistic styling

JCS inflation?

Heard some reliably traffic that none of these is intended to be a "final design". It's not that they are going to be selecting one of these four options "as is", rather these are basic design templates upon which to do further development once they decided which "style" of the four works the best.

TL;DR version: The final insigniae chosen will not be exactly the same as any of these four, but the final insigniae chosen will be BASED ON one of these four.

The senior NCO insignia look a little busy, I don't think they meet the bar set by the clean USAF design. The globe would look better if the latitude lines were straight ("parallels") IMO.

BTW what they're calling "Vandenberg stripes" were never implemented in the '50s but must have come close because they made a ton of them. When I was a kid the army-navy surplus store had a bushel basket full of them, 80¢ for a three-stripe patch IIRC.

The proposed uniforms,

I love, love the rank insignia, still processing the prototype uniform. They said they started with the Women's design first than adapted it for Men. Thats fantastic to hear, consider they have mostly ignored women in uniform development.
