Spoilers WandaVision discussion thread

It probably was. We just weren't allowed to see it during any meaningful action.

In FC, they should have been the first in the fight against the Borg but were told to continue exploring gaseous anomalies by the Admiralty because they didn't trust Picard with the Borg presence after Wolf 359. This was an in-universe decision to heighten the dramatic action in the opening.

During DS9, the E-E was completely absent (were they ever even mentioned at any time?) and the only movie that occurred in that timeframe was Insurrection, and they were relegated to diplomatic missions to look for new allies. Picard was forced to wear some funny ribbon thing on his head while Starfleet officers were dying lightyears away. They should have been at the front lines there, as well, cutting Dominion battleships in half. This was a real-world decision by Paramount because they think we're idiots.

Both decisions, both in-universe and IRL were quantifiable mistakes with specious reasoning propping them up.

As were the suits that ran DS9 above Behr, who foolishly believed any appearance of the Enterprise in DS9 would have "confused" us poor, feeble-brained fans.
They also had a desire to keep the Enterprise E a "movie exclusive ship" with the concern that by showing it or another Sovereign class ship on a TV show, no one would pay to go see in a movie in theatres. IIRC, Behr really tried to have a Sovereign class ship in the battle and WYLB and the Suits refused to allow it for this very reason.

And then no one saw Insurrection or Nemesis in theatres anyway.

Which, sadly, aren't canonical but I would find it very hard to believe the Federation flagship and a Sovereign-class starship wasn't deployed into combat at least once during the war. The 1701-E was about as powerful and advanced as Starfleet got at that point in time.

I always assumed the 1701-E was in the war but we just never saw the missions in which it participated.
We saw on screen the most important battles, ones were the entire tide of the war changed and for me it is incomprehensible that one of the most valuable shops was just "elsewhere" each time...

Back to WandaVision
I am really looking forward to seeing Friday's episode. There are so many speculations out there about how it could play out but I get the feeling Marvel will surprise us all...

That's what I'm hoping and not just "Surprise! Dr. Strange!" since most of us are predicting that.

I'm going to rewatch the season tomorrow and hopefully I'll pick up on some nuances that I missed out on before.

I rewatched Age of Ultron today and I found it remarkable how much Wanda has changed since then. Not just in character, but also in attire and make-up. I guess it could be chalked up to Wanda trying to acclimate to the States.

Oh! One other thing: For the last few weeks, but especially, people have been going on and on about how we never heard the name "Scarlet Witch" uttered until "Previously On." However, I noticed that Tony refers to her as a witch during his Hulkbuster fight against Hulk. Not the same thing, I know, but it's not true that she's never been called a witch before.

I think the point was that unlike the other heroes who ultimately adopted their names from the comics directly into the films, Wanda had never directly been called or adopted her moniker of: "The Scarlet Witch" which is how she has been known for decades in the actual Marvel comics.

Yeah, I get that and that's totally fair.

But I've seen some instances that have expressed that she was never referred to anything like that all. That's what I'm mostly reacting to.

I don't want anyone's predictions to turn out true. No Doctor Strange, no multiverses, no mutants, no Mephisto.

As for your rewatch, keep a particular eye on Hayward. I am now convinced that he plays a much larger part in this than previously speculated.

I agree on Mephisto and mutants. I only say Dr. Strange and the multiverse as a way for the show to lead into his film and not taking a big part of the finale. My speculation is the consequences of this season are the catalysts for the events in his film. But I could be wrong.

Yeah, I suspect the same. I'm keeping a close eye on everything but he's definitely one of the main focuses.

Incidentally, I just saw this io9 article where the finale director, Matt Shakman, says some people are going to be disappointed because of all of the different theories that are going around. This quote in particular stands out (emphasis mine):

“But we’re always telling this story about Wanda dealing with grief and learning how to accept that loss, and hopefully people will find that the finale is surprising but also satisfying, and that it feels inevitable because it’s the same story they’ve been watching the whole time.”
The show is at its best when it focuses on Wanda's grief and how she has chosen to deal with it (i.e. not). That's why I really don't like all of these theories about Mephisto or some other bigger reveal. It makes sense for Agatha to be involved because of Chaos Magic, but anything more than that misses the point.

I was just about to post on this, myself. I've been seeing people on Twitter bracing themselves in a sort of pre-counter-backlash, that all this build-up for a surprise or a twist or a cameo or a teaser is causing certain people to miss the forest for one particular tree they want to completely shock them, but also be exactly what they expect, regardless of how the actual story of the miniseries is resolved, or whether any potential surprise actually fits with that, or blunts the story.

Everyone seems to be waiting for some supervillian from the comics to make an eleventh hour appearance, most of these I have never heard of before since I mostly just know what has been shown on screen.
I do not think a supervillian is really needed to be pulling the strings.

The Director of the last episode of WandaVision has said people with fan theories are going to be disappointed.

During DS9, the E-E was completely absent (were they ever even mentioned at any time?
Nope.

That'd likely seem quite forced as those three are separated by centuries...
Yeah but, Star Trek? Time Travel, Q, Nexus, etc could bring them all together to face some major threat.

I think you're right--we already have our super villain from the comics.

Nope.
The 1701-E was mentioned, though not outright named, by the Department of Temporal Investigations flunkies in "Trials and Tribble-ations".
