"We're not too far along in filming," she said. "It starts and stops with COVID."
The move is part of a wider official strategy of placing every current and former “Trek” TV series on Paramount Plus, including new seasons of “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Star Trek: Lower Decks” which are also set to premiere in 2021.
As I said in another threadI'm surprised they think they'll be able to get DISCO season four out that quickly.
I think season 3 began filming July 2019.I can't find a start date for Season 3.
Filming of season 4 is taking significantly slower than usual. They began in November and by mid January they were only on their third episode. Compare that to season 3 where they began in July of 2019 and by September they already had at least four episodes complete based on an interview with Doug Jones at the time claiming a quarter of the season was already filmed. With everyone having almost a year to adapt to working at home, post-production is probably going a bit faster than Season 3.

They could also go for a gap in the middle of the season like they did in S1. I doubt they will do that, but it is a way to give the crew an extra few weeks to finish the last couple of episodes if they need to make a deadline for the premiere. I am more optimistic that they will have something this year than I was when S3 finished airing, but I am not banking on it.
IIRC, CBSAA actually instituted a rule saying they wouldn't do that with any of their shows again claiming there was a massive viewer drop off in the second half of Disco's first season. They could also go for a gap in the middle of the season like they did in S1.

For the rest of 2021 into 2022 the order will probably be:I wouldn't be surprised if Discovery season 4 premieres this year, but I definitely don't think we're going to get the complete season in 2021. Maybe a December premiere.
I keep thinking of when Netflix said the final season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was going to premiere in 2020...then they dropped the season on December 31st.
Yeah, one could hope so. But I fear that Strange New Worlds or Prodigy may end up on Paramount+ in the areas where that is already available by the time those are released. So I may actually need to watch Star Trek from THREE different streaming services. One hopes most of them end up on Prime Video internationally.
My predictions:
Lower Decks S2(Paramount+): July 2021
Prodigy S1(Nickelodeon): Septermber 2021
Discovery S4 (Paramount+): November 2021
Picard S2 (Paramount+): February 2022
SNW S1 (Paramount+): September 2022
