    How about half-Tellarite/half-Talaxian?

Anyway "Tellarite" is obviously the tech guy and the girl should be "magical alien " of some sort. Curious, what will be the specialization of others.

Wow, you're right. Allowing for animation stylization, he's got all the distinguishing features -- the spots, the placement of the hair, the temporal ridges, the notch in the middle of the nose, the butterfly-wing shape to the ears. That is totally a Talaxian. Plus he's got a scavenger-mechanic vibe not unlike Neelix, suggesting a similar background.

Which would explain something I was wondering, which is why none of the characters (except this one, I now realize) are from familiar species. Maybe the show is set in the Delta Quadrant. It ties in with Janeway's inclusion -- maybe Prodigy is a ship sent back to the DQ after Voyager returns, like the Full Circle fleet in the novels.

Could that that be some part of the reason why Janeway is just a Captain instead of Admiral? Delta Quadrant knows her as Captain.

Yeah. The only thing I can't parse is the tooth. Maybe hybrid Talaxian/Tellarite.

Wait, Janeway's been demoted? Or maybe this'll be set in the sliver of time between Voyager's return and NEM?

I think that Janeway would be a "CMH" Command Hologram on the ship, so not really "There" and based on the captain version.
Looks like very good CGI.. for Nick was expection well.. more limited animation..

Probably Tellerite, which would be AWESOME because they need more species exploration, and love that they love to argue.. :)

    @Christopher
Rebels was acutually a step down in in animation qualitiy from Clone wars, and the End season and Bad Batch actually up the quality from even clone wars. But do agree its more in line with Troll hunters. Just happy to see some effort, some stuff as of late have been Meh in quality.

And that explains Janeway's involvement. She hears about a ship with a hybrid Talaxian/Federation species and immediately hunts him down to split him apart.

The crew is supposed to be comprised of teenagers.

Kirk jumped back and forth between Captain and Admiral.

Hmm, maybe there was another Starfleet ship taken to the DQ by the Caretaker, but something happened to its entire crew. Now these characters find it and activate some sort of distress signal that Janeway answers, not wanting another ship to be stranded.

Or just a snaggletoothed guy. Trek has never needed an excuse to alter the details of its aliens -- e.g. DSC giving Tellarites tusks when they never had them before, or various productions moving Andorians' antennae all over their heads. But there are enough distinct features saying "Talaxian" that they outweigh any single feature that can be easily attributed to the creative license of the designer.

Not sure why you'd think that. Nickelodeon had Avatar and Korra, after all, and those had the lushest 2D animation we've seen on TV since the '90s.

I wasn't talking about animation quality (an impossible thing to judge from a still image), I was talking about the character design and aesthetics. The design style here has nothing whatsoever in common with The Clone Wars aside from being 3D (which most TV animation is these days). Really, any Star Wars animated series is a poor analogy for its design style, but Rebels is the least-worst analogy.

Yes, non-Starfleet teenagers who find a derelict Starfleet ship. Which makes sense if it was a ship lost in the Delta Quadrant, perhaps with a Janeway hologram aboard as suggested above. It makes sense for a Trek kids' show, since it lets the characters have their own adventures in their own environment without a lot of Trek continuity baggage to confuse novice viewers.

(Also, pardon my grammar-nerdery, but the crew is supposed to consist of teenagers. The teenagers comprise the crew.)

I'm kinda hoping Okona is actually in Lower Decks, that Prodigy is set post-Burn and Janeway is a holo. I'm not sure why, I just want it that way.

It'd be a rerun of Voyager.

No, because the characters are not Starfleet officers, they're a group of alien teenagers who find the ship. We don't know what role Janeway plays, but we do know that much. Presumably they're in their own home territory already.

If my theory is correct (which it's unlikely to be, at least not completely), then it wouldn't be like Voyager at all. I expect they'll be Delta Quadrant aliens and so they're not searching for a way home. Maybe they discover a holographic Janeway that tells them about the Federation and so they decide to try living up to its ideals, perhaps inspiring others to do the same. The fact that they're all wildly different species and not just humans will then play a part, showing how they can put aside their differences and form a crew, just like Starfleet.

Yeah, I, too, am thinking that's a Talaxian. I am REALLY hoping this is something that plans to stand on its own and not a VOY sequel/continuation. I didn't like it much the first time around, and not much interested in revisiting the Delta Quadrant again. Of course, I will give the show a chance (and my daughter is looking forward to seeing it too). Just hoping it doesn't fall into 90's/Berman-era tropes and characterizations, to coincide with the possible-legacy setting.

Am I the only one that really doesn't want to see much of Janeway? Holo/Real/Captain/Admiral or otherwise?

Honestly, I would prefer that they didn't have her at all. As much as I am not a fan of this animation style or the overall presentation I am at least marginally OK with something new. Not sure how Janeway fits in.

I suppose it's a kind of tradition, though. All of the 90's series had premiere cameos from other shows. This one seems to want to touch on that, but I suspect 95% of its target audience (kids) have never heard of Janeway, the DQ, Talaxians, or any of those other TrekVerse terms.

I just hope it's been written for adults as well as kids. I stopped watching Star Wars: Resistance because I couldn't stomach the insipidly childish writing and over-simplistic characters any longer. Hoping this one is better than that by at least one order of magnitude.
