Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

Good find! I can't lie though, it doesn't exactly fill me with wonder. But, neither did the Picard casting sheets and I liked that.

Fun to see Denobulans again.
You are right! Still, we have only 5 short descriptions. I´m interested in both Denobulan and female Ferengi. And, of course, who exactly Vezria is.

I am not entirely sure, but I´m surprised the forum possibly never registered this supposed description of secondary characters: https://www.theilluminerdi.com/2020/12/01/star-trek-prodigy-characters/

A very strange sentence in that article:

  • The animation is targeting a look similar to the Netflix series, Love, Death & Robots and Ninjago/Trollhunters.

Ninjago is a LEGO-based show, so obviously it looks extremely different from Trollhunters. And LD&R is an anthology with a wide range of different animation styles. The one thing they have in common is that they're 3D computer-animated (for the most part -- LD&R has a couple of 2D-animated segments and a hybrid live action/animated segment). So maybe that's what the sentence means, but it's a bizarre way of putting it.

This article seems a little odd to me. For the first character, they say in paragraph 1:
First up is Doctor Torgo. She’s described as an eccentric alien geneticist in her 50s.
Then in paragraph 2:
There’s no species listed for Doctor Torgo, so I think it’s safe to assume she’s human considering the rest of the breakdowns specify a species.
An alien human?

Plus constant references to aliens in their 40's or 50's - aliens don't have different lifespans anymore and all use human age ranges now? I know this is supposed to be a "kids' show" and probably won't dwell on such minutia like other series have, but this and some of the other descriptions and suppositions seem off to me. Almost like this think was written by a 14 year old.

Dr. Torgo huh?

It probably refers more to the age range of the actors they're looking for.

Okona is such a deep pull it feels like more like something Lower Decks would go for.

he wasn’t a good character at all so we’ll see. Hopefully Prodigy comes up with something good.

Am I the only one who enjoyed that episode and character?

With a name like Torgo (I know, not the final name), she is likely an alien alien geneticist. That no species is mentioned means she's probably an invented alien species or there's something interesting about her background that they didn’t want to go into on a casting call.

If Torgo, the "alien geneticist", is an alien, which seems likely, then all five of the casting call are aliens. Wouldn't it be crazy if Janeway was the only human in the cast?

The report said that these descriptions are specifically for the supporting characters, not the entire cast.

Alex Kurtzman reworked Seven of Nine for Picard (Goodbye, catsuit!)

Perhaps he's going to do something similar for Okona on Prodigy? (Dial back his overactive libido slightly? The man impregnated almost an entire royal household! )

Kurtzman is not afraid of strong female characters (he started out as a writer and showrunner on Xena).

Data and Piscopo making noises on the holodeck gets my vote for low point for the entire Star Trek franchise.

And that includes those weird old comic books made by people who never saw the show.

I still like the episode even if one of the (sub)plots is forgettable and regrettable.
