Judging from the pics, it appears Trek is aiming for something along the lines of "Clone Wars".

It'll be good to have aliens who are something other than humans with funky foreheads.

I was not expecting a Personality Core from Portal to be on the crew.

Aside from being 3D CGI, I see no similarity. The design style is more reminiscent of Trollhunters/Tales from Arcadia, unsurprisingly, since it has creators in common. The closest thing in Star Wars animation would be Rebels, I'd say.

I haven't kept up with the animated series since The Mandalorian came out.

There hasn't been a new SW animated series since The Mandalorian, aside from the Clone Wars revival and its upcoming The Bad Batch spinoff.

Interesting that they decided Paramount+ gets Prodigy before Nickelodeon. With the live action Trek shows just recently starting production they are counting on the animated shows to keep Trek fans subscribed to their service. Prodigy is probably next in line to go on Paramount+ followed by Lower Decks season 2.
