Watched both the Tron movies back to back, still love them a lot.

Voice? Is it an animated film?

It's live action, but Boxleitner is "too old" to play Tron unassisted. If he has moved on from acting in it, I hope they can maybe convince him to do at least lend them his voice. But who knows how much connection the new film will have with the previous two anyway?

In my opinion, the best Tron story was Uprising. The movies are fun, but I think the cartoon tells a better story with more interesting characters than Legacy. Plus, Tron is actually in it.

The thing that I like about the movies is that if you take them literally every program you run is a person and somehow computers have an environment inside them when they are turned on. So what happens with programs like games and stuff like say Red Dead or GTA. is that the actual world happening inside the computer, if we can go there would we see what we see on our screens?

Rather than Tron, the first thing this post brings to mind for me is Free Guy, the upcoming Ryan Reynolds movie where he plays a MMO NPC learns what he really is.

I love both Tron flicks. I was surprised Legacy didn’t perform better. I thought it was great, and looked fantastic. Certainly no worse than most of what qualifies as a $1B blockbuster these days.

Just rewatched Tron tonight. Even back when it was first released, the utter computer illiteracy of the screenwriter bugged the hell out of me. We're not talking about plot holes so much as it being nothing more than a mediocre story with some computer terms overlaid on it by someone who didn't understand computers. Without the computer terminology and splashy effects, it could easily have been dismissed as your typical sci-fi B-movie, like Galaxy of Terror or Glen Larson's Buck Rogers. It made about as much sense.

Still, I watch it again every once in awhile, as just dumb fun. Too bad I can't say that about Tron: Legacy, which wasn't fun at all. Never going to watch that movie again.

Just trying to put that into something visual I just can't. So even calculators have walking talking programs inside them in the Tron universe.

I love Legacy. Legitimately an excellent, interesting story. Bridges does a great job.

Amazing that in 1982, even pocket calculators had wireless connectivity, right? And why is every program unique? Shouldn't there be tens of thousands of identical copies of arcade programs running on tens of thousands of arcade games? How do you get programs to do things they were never designed to do, like accounting programs fighting in games? I'd like to see someone make Turbotax play Fortnite. Why are programs coming up with tactics independently anyway? They should be under the control of game players in the real world. Why are users gods? In most situations, users ≠ programmers. We're all using this forum, but we're hardly programmers here. There are a million inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the movie. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Blade Runner 2049 was a good one to catch him in.

Leto's an annoying presence, but he didn't ruin 2049. I'd really rather he wasn't in Tron 3.

I absolutely loved the second Tron film. It was stunning. I'd never seen the original - I wasn't a huge cinema goer in the 80's and I'd never really fancied it when it came on the Tv later.

I did watch it after seeing the second movie - I didn't like it much.

I too love these movies and the universe in general - both for its idea and the execution.

Tron was groundbreaking for its time - computer graphics integrated with live action on a scale not seen that often back then in the 80s and the story was so cool.

Tron Legacy was a worthy successor in my opinion, obviously updating the visuals but still keeping it close enough to the original. Together with a killer soundtrack from Daft Punk ( i'm not that into electronic music but Daft Punk is it and i could listen to the soundtrack for hours) it made for a very enjoyable movie - oh and Olivia Wilde

Side Note: Back some 10-15 years ago i played a Marvel pen & paper RPG and my character was a paraplegic technical genius, who built himself a powersuit ( like Iron Man) similar to those in Tron and his main weapon was an energy disc he could throw around. One time i put everything i had in an all out strike and nearly killed Mr. Sinister

This is how much i really like the Tron universe.

I hope it continues in some form, it is just too cool in concept to be left for dead.

Aaaand...Daft Punk just split up. Like, 30 minutes ago.

Given that they were an absolutely enormous part of why the second film was good, it doesn't bode well for another film.

Jeez, it was so outstanding it's one of the very few I've ever purchased !

Electronic music is not something I find particularly appealing. So outside of the Tron environment it lacks a feel that I find enjoyable as just listening music.

Not my main thing musically, but I dare say I'm more fond of it than you are.

I found it tonally perfect, moving and a perfect fit, elevating the movie from good to great.
