Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Still watching TNG. Apparently there was a war with the Cardassians that went on for years!!!! There were massacres!!! Yet this the first we hear of it and the Cardassians! ;)
Those Cardassians suck! How dare they take away from a pre-established series just to focus on their own alien species with even considering past continuity!

Up to First Contact in my TNG rewatch. Have to wonder what the Malconians are up to in the 32nd Century. They were at a 22nd Century Earth level of tech in TNG.

Well it was the first time I had seen that.

On a production point of view how did no one spot the mistake with the turbolift funhouse? I love the scene but surely someone looked back and said "we stuffed up"
As I said elsewhere, they probably don't think they goofed.

I don't see it as that way. I think it was the production team just having fun. Is it a goof? Maybe but it's something they liked and decided to keep it in. That it makes fans so annoyed probably doesn't factor much in to it. It just for fun.

AND THAT IS WHY I LOVE THE FUNHOUSE

I love the whole scene as it plays out and just went with it. I can't get hung up on things like this and I did dislike after viewing the episode when it dropped but then loved it the next time around and do love it now. Anyway who is to say how that works I can handwave it with future tech from the timeship they showed us in Enterprise.

It has shown some fans to be rather obsessive and hostile about this one scene.

Here's what I actually am learning: fans are obsessive by nature. If they like it then it gets a free pass. If it fails then no amount of rationalizations will stop the burn.

My conclusion is that it becomes very personal. The writers/VFX team/producers actively hate the product they are working on is the only conclusion for such oversights. Except, writers don't have the luxury of being obsessive like fans. They have a schedule to keep and getting all the details right is not that important.

I learned this in my 20s. I went to a convention with a Star Trek screenwriter as a guest. They con hosted a trivia night and had the writer do the Trek competition. I was sitting there, in the audience and knew all the answers. He knew maybe 4 or 5. It was in good fun but it simply laid out that I had more time to read the minutia.

It's a harsh lesson. We would love to believe this team has that same obsessive nature. But, they don't. So, they have fun, take it less seriously and don't worry if it fits on a diagram. I think it's a more fun way to go, personally.

It's the Litmus Test.

What did you think of it?
A. "That was awesome!"
B. "I know it's silly, but I still got a kick out of it."
C. "I don't care."
D. "I can't believe they did that."
E. "Why the Hell did they do that?!"
F. "STD SUCKS! BURN IN HELL FOREVER!!!"

In its first appearance (Short Trek), I was a C.
Then it showed up in Disco S2, and it was more of a D.
In S3, with all the advanced refit stuff happening, I went back to a C.

It's the same for me. I liked it specifically because it was so silly. And to be honest, a ship having detailed, realistic blueprints and deck layouts, and the sets actually matching those was never high on my priority list to begin with. Matching the windows of Enterprise-D sets to the ship miniature can be a fun pastime but it won't ruin my day if I can't fit Ensign Whatshisname's quarters or the Technobabbleonics Lab anywhere in the saucer.

Oh lord those are fighting words. Don't say that on any really hard core groups.... You'll be done.
I'll add that's pretty much how I feel. I enjoyed all 3 seasons of the show and love it. I just can't get hung up over little details because when I have done that in the past it really takes away my enjoyment of a show.

Oh and random thing here someone made custom funkos of Owo and Detmer

I decided to restart DSC Season 1 for the fourth time, and The Vulcan Hello/Battle at the Binary Stars is still the best Pilot/premiere episode in all of Star Trek.
