Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 3x10 - "Terra Firma, Part 2"

Can't say this was my favorite trip to the Mirror Universe. I'm glad that it wasn't all in Georgiou's mind, though in a way it was. It left me wondering did she change the past so that the events of DISCO in Season 1 now didn't happen, or just happened differently? I don't know if this really needed to be two episodes, which took time away from the mystery of The Burn.
I was glad we got an answer about Carl. I was okay with that explanation. I liked the interplay in Engineering and also enjoyed the eulogy at the end. When the ensemble is given moments, their characters show off more personality, it's good because the ingredients are there for a likable crew.
I was hoping we would get a glimpse of where Emperor Georgiou was now. I'm guessing she is taking the place of Prime Georgiou in the 23rd century, like she did before, but will be better at it.

Oh, and a solid 8. Markedly better than last week.
Yeah, same here. It would have been a distraction from the actual intent of the story. If they ever do bring Lorca back, the character deserves to be the main focus, and not a glorified cameo.
I'd also like to see the Congo someday, which combines the Universe and Altair!
Some notes and stuff:
- Opening scene is just the scene from the sneak preview. I know that's how they almost always do it, but I think it'd be better to have the preview scene struck out from elsewhere in the show. It'd be funner to see it develop into the preview, especially if the preview is a bit spoiler heavy.
- I don't care about the robots operating between decks. That's where I assume they always are, but why the constant work going on? Was ISS Discovery in battle recently?
- The "Coalition"? Nice to give the Denobulans a shout-out, but I really wanted the Alliance to be an evolution of the same Vulcan-Andorian rebel alliance seen in Enterprise that would evolve into the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance seen in DS9. Event mentioning the Cardassians (perhaps right after Klingons) would help cement the connection to the latter series. Right now, it's just a third random rebellion amongst a litany of rebellions.
- I know Michael is trying to spin events for her own benefit here, but does anyone see torturing Michael as a sign of weakness? That buiding a golden death palace in the sky is a form of retirement rather than a mobile base of operations to take down these rebellions?
- Oh, I guess Killy sees it as weakness. And Georgiou has to explain it just like I'm explaining it. It probably didn't help when she randomly went into her rant about giving people hope or whatever nonsense she was saying.
- Nice to see how reformed Georgiou is. Now she realizes that destroying Michael's psyche and making her love her is a good thing, apparently.
- Mirror universe titles... just darker and upside-down for some reason... Okay. I guess it would cost too much to do something more interesting for one episode. Grin is going to like the upside-downness.
- "No one has heard from Lorca. I don't think he's coming" - sorry, Jason Isaacs fans.
- I was hoping Georgiou's ramblings were inner monologue. Turns out they were what she was saying in full view of listening devices. Not a good place to say these things.
- Pretty sure Burnham isn't reformed. Killing Detmer was a fun show of loyalty, but she's still on Lorca's side (or, rather, her own).
- "You are not Terran." Yeah, she is. She's from Earth. Don't fall into the Terran=Mirror Universe trap, Mirror Saru.
- Okay, okay. I just got an AT&T commercial where a guy calls his mom, but it's the wrong person. It's a guy named Carl. On point advertisting, AT&T. This commercial is canon.
- Well, they solved the Nilsson-Airiam dispute.
- Why isn't Michael in command of the ISS Shenzhou? Is it because she killed half her crew?
- Good death count. Expected turncoat from Burnham, but with some added bonus by side crew. And, of course, Georgiou had this all planned out, with Kelpien enforcements!
- There we have it. The death of Michael Caesar Burnham. Very Shakesperean.
- Watch out for Killy now. She stuck with you, but for how long? Given her constant irritation at being overruled, I'm guessing not very.
- "Passed through" back to Carl (not the AT&T one... maybe) for some answers. Nice to see that Georgiou's Apple Watch confirms her mirror journey.
- Okay, Guilfoyle does do a pretty good Bart LaRue afterall.
- Back to (USS) Discovery for some Nebula stuff. I forgot about that season-long arc they were doing.
- "What's a Guardian of Forever?" says Michael. Exactly. Carl really should've known his big reveal was only for our benefit (of course, we figured it out last week).
- "Here's a portal to spin-off land"
- So, is Section 31 going to be about Philippa making the prime universe.
- "I had a chance, long ago. He was called San. We didn't have a chance to develop that flashback into something meaningful. We'll have to go into details on my new show."
- "Saru isn't the only one suited for the Captain's chair. Give NIlsson my goodbyes. My one regret is that she could not be here."
- Saru making up status conditions for disappeared crewmates, like any good 23rd century Captain would.
- I'm going to take a nap during this requisite "Let's drink to her memory" scene.
- I guess the Guardian has to move again, since Starfleet knows all about his location now.
- I tried to watch the credits, but it went immediately to commercials instead of the at little box in the corner. When the commercials ended, Star Trek: Picard started playing. Stupid CBS app.
Something like Fenris Rangers?
I'm excited for this episode...... Only 9 hours or so to go.

Probably not by Starfleet, but hostile forces who seized or snuck onto his original planet. The Guardian was always a "sure, go ahead and use my time portal" kind of guy, but I imagine Starfleet kept strict access to it and didn't want to misuse it. The constant misuse by forces, regardless of their allegiance, was probably what led Carl to say "screw you guys, I'm outta here."
And the Guardian relocated almost across an entire quadrant, from the Time Planet in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant in TOS and TAS to near the Alpha-Gamma border. Sure, it didn't happen until centuries after Kirk and Spock used it but that's still a major change in coordinates for a structure of any kind.
Wait until next week. We haven't seen the full story yet.

I wondered how it could possibly do that. Then I realized it was an ancient time-space portal, so it probably just popped away and popped back on the other planet in an instant.

My guess is that a second Mirror Universe was created by the changes Emperor Georgiou made. Carl/Guardian of Forever in some of his lines seemed to be vaguely alluding to the "Many Worlds" theory.
It was real, in that she lived for those three months in a minute, and apparently that universe existed beyond that for the Guardian to get a sense of how it would evolve, but it had no bearing (other than giving us background details) on the mirror universe as seen in other episodes.
Well, that was something.
Disappointed no Lorca. Glad we didn’t spend the whole time in the utterly predictable mirror universe.
Still...
I think both SMG and Yeoh were wonderful here. I’ve really enjoyed what they’ve given the later this season. She actually has been interesting and has turned, dare I say it, sympathetic. Her farewell and memorial were well-done and it might have gotten a little dusty in here.
Im a little disappointed we didn’t get an idea of where Phillipa was going but I guess that’s part of the intrigue of waiting. What I’m ultimately hoping for with the S31 series is either between TUC and TNG (where there’s a ton of unknown) or a few decades after Picard. I don’t think we’re going back to the 23rd century. But I might be wrong.
And RMB is completely wrong. He spoiled the episode for thousands of fans and it didn’t ruin shit with anything.
Combined score for both parts; 7/10 - the framing story was good, the mirror parts not so much.
