Michael is now at about 50% Mariner now.
She better not go full Mariner. You never go full Mariner.
Go full Mariner. Go full Mariner! GO FULL MARINER!
[I'm pretty sure Mariner is my favorite Trek character now, period.]
Heh... She actually kind-of did in the premiere, when she got jacked-up on that speed-like truth serum-whatever stuff. She was literally talking as fast and nearly as nonsensical as Mariner can get sometimes.

I do not in any way think that's a coincidence. They started off Season 2 following in Orville's shadow, something new and different that was able to deliver interesting sci-fi stories while still being able to poke fun at themselves and not be so bloody stiff. Enter Linus sneezing on people in the turbolift, re-introducing himself as a reasonably decent comedy relief on S2's first trailers. Disco S3 continues in LD's shadow, that cranked the meta humor up to 11. They are realizing that they don't need to have a titanium rod shoved up their collective asses a-la BermanVerse to deliver a good story. They're starting to relax a bit, but they still seem to be having a hard time fully embracing it due to the dramatic aspects the show normally demands. I don't think they entirely "get it" quite yet, but definitely better than they were doing in the beginning. Baby steps, an' all that...

I'm tempted to go through every episode one-by-one, listing when this does or doesn't happen.

You know I'd do it, too. ;)
This might save you some time..

All of seasons 2 tears. I've counted roughly 30 different instances of Burnham crying. So that averages a little over 2 cases of Burnham crying per episode.

That's a bit of an over-generalization of the "BermanVerse". It had plenty of light hearted moments. Also, it told some truly great stories which had nothing to do with the characters taking things too seriously. They were great stories because of interesting concepts, great writing and great acting.

The editing on that is not great but from what I can tell and gather her crying doesn't seem out of place.

If anyone has any other Disco Cliches they want me to look out for, I'm taking requests!

But it won't happen until the third season is done.

Tilly moments and how many examples of toxic or misogynistic men getting put in their place by a woman.

And the characters solved problems without having to be involved in a way that they are personally suffering. And thats a part of new trek wich just leads to too much drama. For example: It is not enough for the authors that Picard is an old friend of Riker and that he is fighting for the right thing. That would be enough for a science fiction show with moral themes. No Riker and Deana need to loose a child so that they are directly suffering. Because its just about drama. Drama and decapitations.

If the author of this video insists that there is a crying scene in 13 second, there is no point in watching any more. Nevertheless, I have watched it and I do not know what is the definition of crying according to the author, but the actual one, i.e. flowing tears, is a maximum of 60s of over 5 minutes. Strangely enough, it could have been much longer, but then the viewers would have been caught up in the context of the scenes and that they were justified. Apart from that, there are a few scenes in which there is no crying at all and a few on the verge, but without tears flowing.

 Discovery has not followed in any shadow...it lightened the mood slightly and added a few jokes, it did NOT turn itself into a misfire that doesn't know what it wants to be and consequently doesn't succeed at anything like Orville. Thanks for the laugh though.

Now that we finally have some gay characters in Trek and an Orion villain, I have to be honest I've been wondering since Enterprise if Orion women's pheromones have any, uh, shortcomings in this area. (Yeah, I know, what nerds think about in their free time).

Osyraa: Paul, tell me the secrets of the spore drive and I'll reward you in ways you'll never forget!

Stamets: Yeah, those pheromones don't work on me.

Shoots Osyraa down with a phaser. Audience cheers.

When in doubt, blame it on The Burn.
So, Lord Garth, why did the Burn happen?

(If the Burn turns out to be one of those causality loop type things I get "I told you so" rights)

Wash your mouth out with soap as unlike Nelix, she has useful skills and isn't a total putz. :)
I'm sure Neelix's Kelpian would have tasted much better than hers!

It kind of honors you that you would defend the show you like. But this has to be sarcasm right? It lightened the mood slightly is the understatement of the year. They changed so much stuff, changed characters, brought new minor characters in (why is janet reno??), suddenly felt the need to come up with pike and spock, georgious existence in this show makes no sense at all, they constantly ramble about federation values while the federation relys on space hitler to kickpunch someone.....its all over the place. After being criticized for being not enough star trek they came up with "this is the power of math..". Its desperation....
