Except the final conversation wasn't needed.

In fact, Grey dying at all wasn't needed.

The whole thing could have just as easily been Admiral Tal getting killed instantly in a way that left the symbiot alive, Grey getting seriously wounded by the same thing that killed Tal, and then the symbiot having to go to Adria because Grey's current condition would mean she wouldn't have survived the procedure.

Is "wasn't needed" ever a useful metric?

Also, Grey not dying -- or rather, Grey's body not dying -- would be a pretty significant change.

I'm of the opinion that most of the unseen senior staff (CMO, Chief Engineer) decided to not go with them in the future, and now maybe Reno is Acting Chief Engineer and Culber and Pollard are acting CMO.

Works for me. Although "acting" should probably be removed after next week's episode; unless Starfleet's got someone to transfer in, whoever you've got is it.

Interesting episode made to feel just a little bit creepy at the end. Is Gray's reappearance something natural that happens when a Trill symbiont joins with a human host? doesn't seem to be normal for Trill, judging by his reaction to the "how are you here?" question. Or is it an ill effect and she's somehow losing it mentally? Or is he somehow manifesting himself in the physical world? (the spores + Zora make just about anything possible, I guess)

Ezri saw and heard Joran like he's really there in Field of Fire.

I am thankful, if it holds up, that what is plaguing Detmer is internal and not external.

The robots were okay, but what I find amusing is the sneaky asteroid. It just pops up and, whammo, kicks the crap out of a generation ship.

I mean seriously... It couldn't even fix some light burns and a stab wound? The Doctor could have stabilized that with a basic med kit 900 year ago...

Unless I missed a contradictory statement somewhere, I thought they said a non-Trill joining was completely unprecedented and they believed impossible.

But, you know, it's not like the Trill aren't above hiding away that information for the "good of Trill society". They all seemed to believe that only a few super-select Trill could be hosts, a concept that DS9 said was a lie. These guys probably don't know any better, and all of the Odan stuff was top-secret.

Good on the show for not having "Councillor Dax" stand in with that crowd, btw.

Went back he said there had never been a successful joining with a non Trill species............so I guess it is how you define successful.

Wow, that was incredible..!! EVERY scene hit the mark imo, it was a very calm, very emotional episode... I am glad it lasted 50+ minutes, they really took the time to let the A and B story flow towards very satifying points. Very emotional, very moving-- Trek at its finest. Of course the haters will do away with this as an abomination, 'worst series ever', blablabla, but let's be fair: this series is like a lens finding focus... it may have taken a while for some, but this series has found its focus.. crystal clear..! I just love these characters, the visual style, and a special shout out to Jeff Russo-- awesome job as always..!!!

Tal is at least 800 years old, or at least had a previous host who liked to cosplay as a 2399 era Captain.

Next weeks episode looks good. The guy from the Mummy is the boss. That should be fun
