At some point we gotta just let the drama win. Any injuries the bot couldn't have coped with would have made their final conversation implausible
Except the final conversation wasn't needed.

In fact, Grey dying at all wasn't needed.

The whole thing could have just as easily been Admiral Tal getting killed instantly in a way that left the symbiot alive, Grey getting seriously wounded by the same thing that killed Tal, and then the symbiot having to go to Adria because Grey's current condition would mean she wouldn't have survived the procedure.

overall a decent episode i really liked the character moments and the Adira/grey scenes were :weep:

Dax had nine lives over the course of about 360 years. Tal had seven over the course of about 800 years, judging by the Picard Era uniform. Not out of the question if we assume some long lives (perhaps Old Man Senna was 300 when he died). Just an observation.

Interesting episode made to feel just a little bit creepy at the end. Is Gray's reappearance something natural that happens when a Trill symbiont joins with a human host? doesn't seem to be normal for Trill, judging by his reaction to the "how are you here?" question. Or is it an ill effect and she's somehow losing it mentally? Or is he somehow manifesting himself in the physical world? (the spores + Zora make just about anything possible, I guess)

speaking of Zora, I totally did not pick up on the thing about the sphere data being around and so present in the ship's computer. I guess it's probably going to become kind of a new character now? It's a really cool idea to play around with.

Show definitely has aspirations. Not sure that it feels like "Star Trek" but I guess it probably shouldn't given the drastic changes in setting. And I think that's OK.

No reference to Riker carrying a host around in TNG. I don't know if this is just further delegitimizing that episode, or a sign of the unreliability of information in the 32nd century, or we just have to chalk it up to Riker ("William Odan?") being a temporary, emergency host and not a long-term one like Adira was.

Ummmmmm I swear they mention the difficulties of a Human/Trill joining.........or did you want Riker name dropped specifically?

This episode earned its 10 from me this week. Unlike last week, which I only begrudgingly gave a 10 but could've been better.

Judging from the preview for next week, I'm giving that episode a 10.

Torias died at a relatively young age, Joran had dax removed because he was murderer and then later Jadzia was murdered after only being a host for 6 - 7 years.

"The Burn decimated our population, particularly those capable of joining. We no longer have enough viable hosts."

They established in Equilibrium that "virtually half" of the Trill population was capable of joining. The casualties from the Burn must be much more significant than previously stated. Way more than the "Millions" figure from Burnham.

Unless I missed a contradictory statement somewhere, I thought they said a non-Trill joining was completely unprecedented and they believed impossible.

But, you know, it's not like the Trill aren't above hiding away that information for the "good of Trill society". They all seemed to believe that only a few super-select Trill could be hosts, a concept that DS9 said was a lie. These guys probably don't know any better, and all of the Odan stuff was top-secret.

Good on the show for not having "Councillor Dax" stand in with that crowd, btw.

You can write it off with much newer tricorders and biobeds. But really one cannot have enough delegitimizing The Host as far as I'm concerned.

As far as Grey appearing at the end. I just assume it was some subconscious (and unintentional) act similar to the ritual Zee does in FoF. But not really something that requires an explanation.

In fact, Grey dying at all wasn't needed.
Of course it was.

Creating new bonds and connections after great loss is the main theme of the season.

I liked the fact that more of the crew got speaking parts, now if only everybody on the bridge can get speaking parts and fill some depth to their characters.

I'm of the opinion that most of the unseen senior staff (CMO, Chief Engineer) decided to not go with them in the future, and now maybe Reno is Acting Chief Engineer and Culber and Pollard are acting CMO.
