@Christopher , your approach to racism seems really wack (comparing this post on racism vs. other types you have done, such as on Jimmy Olsen)
That is an undeniable fact.
The reasons why Sophie would be a seamless fit are plentiful:
1. She loves Kate
2. She knows Kate is Batwoman
3. Kate would trust her to take over the mantle
4. She has the same military training & prowess as Kate
5. She already knows the main characters
6. She knows how the Crows are run (and thus avoid them realisitically)
7. She has doubts about how the Crows are run (at least sometimes)
All logical points; Sophie actually
believes in Batwoman's approach to / philosophy about crime-fighting, and being somewhat frustrated with Jacob's hard, obsessive methods, she would seek another way to serve justice, yet do it sans the restrictions of her official job.
9. We don’t have to waste time with yet another “building the team” season arc
Yes--that could be ironed out in three episodes, and Team Batwoman already knows much about Sophie--what kind of woman she is--so there would be a certain amount of trust in place to thaw any doubts about her motivations. One would expect conflicts from time to time (as witnessed during Kate's time in the suit), but her biggest battle would be with the dual identity / loyalty issues with Jacob.
@TREK_GOD_1 and others, please let me know if you feel I was really off base here., or if I have legitimate points
Not off base; Christopher L. Bennett is the hammered-in-stone example of the Arrogant White Liberal who sits on his Ivory Throne of Judgement, spewing claims he does not have the experience, and/or historical awareness to make. In other words, he is utterly unqualified to make any of his weak-minded judgements or conclusions. As in the case with his offensive comments about the James Olsen character, he's going all out to protect the gross shortcomings of Berlanti TV series (his well-known agenda),
by trying to define what it means to be black. Offensive beyond belief--his ignorance walks in lockstep with his arrogance in trying to deny how much racial identity informs every waking moment of a black person's life, and should be a major part of any black character's development and story arc. This is not the editorials of Vox or MSNBC, where hordes of White Liberals routinely assume they occupy a certain throne, therefore are able to point their non-all knowing finger down, to telling everyone who or what they are--facts , experience and history be damned.
You are getting a crash course in that ill behavior wherever Christopher posts; its the same, astoundingly arrogant BS that had him using the J'onn character as some representation of the black experience when he--and the production company he so breathlessly defends--are so buried in offensive White Liberal propaganda that they tap-shuffle-tap right over the fact that an
alien pretending to be black...is not black. Its not his history, blood memory or experience, especially when he--unlike real black people-
cannot shape-shift into any race he desires. Psychologically, that ability prevents one from ever understanding who he has the
option of not being at any time.
Now, this member is projecting his "I'm White and I Say So" BS on you and this series, by
speaking for black people with that
"Those are just part of who she is, not her entire identity" crap--forever proving he does not now--nor will he ever be qualified to speak about how a black person (or character) should be defined. considered, viewed, or that which shapes who they are. Yes, though White Liberals will never admit it, when it comes to black people, there is a long tradition rooted in racist perceptions that "we know best", ripping black identity and agency from them as if they were their dumb
pets who need their "wisdom" or guiding hand.
Again, what are that member's experiences / education on such matters?
Nowhere to be found. He is the very reason so many black people have flat out rejected (and called out) White Liberals of his kind, as they work around the clock trying to tell others what to think, what to consider themselves (despite not being in a position to do so), and how characters based on black people should be presented--usually with deliberate neglect or their own sociopolitcal agendas having nothing to do with black concerns for character and audience member. Look to
Supergirl's racist neglect / marginalizing of the Olsen character, the
Star Wars sequels' modern-day minstrel-izing of Finn (and Boyega's statements about how he and his character were mistreated), or
Star Trek Discovery's Walter Mosely's mistreatment by white writers for telling
his own story on racism and use of the "N" word as directed at him. The most White Liberal entertainment properties of all, and this is how black employees and characters are treated...and the member you responded to is an ideological supporter of those beliefs / abuse from the Ivory Throne of Judgement.
Frankly, he is all over the place with his jaw-dropping ignorance of the black realities of this world, but at the end of it all, he will defend the indefensible, make offensive claims about what it means to be black and shame himself by cementing himself to that patently inane position.
