What was "The Burn" and what caused it?

Postapocalyptic Star Trek timelines are more interesting than not. Both ENT and DSC have had good ideas and whatever one thinks of the execution of either at least they went into the future and not the past again.

I really liked the first episode, especially the chemistry between Martin-Green and Ajala, and the sharpest dialogue I've seen on Discovery yet. Though I have a feeling The Burn will have more holes than Swiss Cheese. Will the characterization and dialogue be able to carry the show if the base plot doesn't make a lot of sense? We'll see.

Hey, except for the season finale PIC worked pretty well and delivered. I'm open to this paying off in a big way. But...it is DSC.

Even if it does it won't satisfy, I don't think. I mean, S2 was a blast and the Red Angel went a direction I didn't expect. That was fun for me. I expect S3 to do the same.

Your head canon doesn't count.
No, but this does.

I think he's referring to the "WORMHOLE RESEARCH" graphic in the upper left of the image. Though what that means in the minds of the creators who knows?

I hope there is a good explanation as well. I am willing to wait for it..........however my main questions are if it all went BOOM why is it still sought after? Isn't there a risk of it going BOOM again? Seems like there had to be an outside influence. A stable, neutral, homonuclear diatomic molecule doesn't just become volatile.........like ever.

Ya work with what you have. If only they had something powered by fungus.

Either way it's not proof that 32nd century Starfleet ships use a transwarp network, but...your mileage may vary.

I just want Discovery to stick the landing this time. Just wrap the season up right. It doesn't have to be cosmos threatening, it doesn't mean that the time Spock used all the toilet paper when she was 13 and she had to build a communicator of of hairpins and deodorant to summon the house robot to bring her a new roll set in motion a series of events culminating in a Trance Worm that is literally eating time and pooping closed loop universes and the only way to solve it is they.. wait they already did! only they're doing it now and that's where Discovery was and why everyone blacked out because they already did it. season over. crowd goes wild.

yeah.i hope they don't do that.

Actually I am referring to the big bold "Transwarp Network" in text.
Is there also a graphic saying "Transwarp Network courtesy of Nero & the Narada"? "Cause I can't recall any dialog about the Narada using Transwarp anything in 09. ITD o BEY. So headcanon.
Anyhow information on a screen in alternate reality doesn't have much bearing on the 32nd Century of the Prime reality. If I was to hazard a guess, I'd say it's an experimental network that Khan used escape.

Most, but not all of it went boom. Most people, not willing to risk another boom, are not traveling by warp. Only those with limited options, and thus make their living doing something potentially risky (using dilithium), are competing for the small amount that is left.
