Pickle Rick definitely deserved the Emmy it won.
I was sold on She-Hulk the moment I heard the writer of that episode was going to be showrunner, and now I'm even more sold with Tatiana Maslany's casting.

There was definite pushback against Evans. Mainly because he was the Human Torch in the Fox FF movies. But it wasn't quite as widespread because folks also didn't think that Cap could be done well on screen at all either.
Well, okay, I do remember that but I ignored that because it wasn't fair to judge him for two shitty films.

The one I remember people bringing up the most was 'A Knight's Tale'. No clue why, I never did watch it.

It's a great movie (very definitely in a non-serious way). I'd say it probably only came up because it was Ledger's breakout hit, so for a lot of people it defined him as an actor which blinded them to the possibility he could do something that wasn't supposed to be funny.

I've only recently got into it and I have to agree. I actually made a point to watch the "Pickle Rick" episode, as that's the Emmy winning episode written by She-Hulk showrunner Jessica Gao, and it had me in tears.
Here's hoping Jaguar makes it into the MCU...if only as a meta in-joke like those fake Nathan Fillion movies from Guardians 2.
I know some people had their hearts set on Craven the Hunter, and while that would have been awesome 20 years ago; Danny Trejo is 76. I think he's a little bit past that kind of role.

Well, okay, I do remember that but I ignored that because it wasn't fair to judge him for two shitty films.
At the time I think I'd genuinely forgotten those films even existed. And I think I did so again until literally just now. They're forgettable like that...at least I think they are. Can't really recall.
Not sure I even recalled Evans was in that FF film when he was announced.
Right!?

Based on how they've destroyed She-Hulk, even worse then the comics have, I have no faith in those shows being any good.
Casting a respected award winning actress in the lead role must be a sure sign of destruction then.
Oh! He's also upset that an Emmy award-winning writer for Rick and Morty is the showrunner, because apparently Rick and Morty is the worst animated show on the air right now.
You can't possibly know they've 'destroyed' She-Hulk. Not only is there nowhere near enough information out there to even start to form an opinion (unless to succeed it has to conform to your smallest expectation) you can't know until you've actually seen it, or at least some of it.

I've never heard of the actress, I've never seen Rick & Morty.

She's not my mind's eye casting but if she's a decent actress - who knows ? My dislike of animated shows certainly doesn't mean I'll dislike another show by the same creatives.

Let's just wait and see...

"Decent," huh? She starred for five years in a series where she played numerous different clones with completely distinct personalities, and you frequently forgot that they were played by the same person. She's gotten 40 award nominations and won more than half of them.
As I said, I'd never heard of her, so I really can't say.

Her CV does look very promising though.

Heath Ledger proved to everyone that complaining about casting, however unconventional it may seem, is a fruitless endeavor. Most people, myself included, were very wrong about his casting. Anyone who throws out the whole production based on a single casting is just silly.

And to be 100% clear: Tatiana Maslany is not even unconventional casting for precisely the reasons Nerys Myk and Anwar already stated.

I thought that Heath Ledger was mediocre and overrated, he'd be the worst Joker if not for Leto and Phoenix coming along after him and being worse. Part of that is being written badly (the Joker doesn't have a philosophy, but Nolan hates comics so didn't care), but his acting was just ok, even with good material I think he would have been unimpressive as Joker.

Tatiana Maslany is a horrible choice for She-Hulk in almost every way possible. I mean, maybe they could do worse if they hired someone who had no acting experience at all, but as it is between her casting and the worst writer Rick & Morty ever had running the show, my favorite Marvel hero is absolutely fucked in live action.

Too reasonable, just like it is also too reasonable to not assume that people making movies might have a different approach than people making comics. Also, assuming a character being "destroyed" is just hyperbole that makes no sense.

But, then, I have learned the hard way that adaptations do not go by what I want and that lesson is tough to take to heart at times.

So I like Mariko Tamaki's run a lot. I think it has a very beautiful, somber tone. It explores themes of anxiety and depression wonderfully. But it's not a funny story, that's for sure. There's some meta stuff in the final arc as She-Hulk recovers from depression.

I took your recommendation and read these. They're pretty good, and still retain some of the inherent humor and metatextuality of the character while letting her go through a more traumatic phase in her life. But I'm not a fan of how decompressed comics have gotten these days, with very few words per page and a single story taking 4-6 issues to unfold. It was surprising how many issues it took before Jen's new gray-Hulk form even manifested fully. (Good art, though, for the most part. Better than in the Soule run.)

What was striking was how much this series's character design for Jennifer (especially in the later issues) resembled Tatiana Maslany, well ahead of her actual casting in the role. In the earlier runs, she was just a similar general physical type, but here, the resemblance was surprisingly strong. I wonder if Marvel had her in mind for the part well before her actual casting, as a fantasy-casting possibility if nothing more.

You really should check out Orphan Black, which is Tatiana Maslany's big breakout role, and Rick & Morty, they are both phenomenal shows. And as a side not Maslany's pretty good on Heartland too.

Perhaps you could list these "ways"?

Look, acting ability, basically she doesn't work at all in any sense outside of the fact that Jennifer Walters in the comics is also a cisgender caucasian brunette woman. The only way they could have done worse but kept those elements would be to hire a retiree whose hair they'd dye. The actress that did get should be, I don't know, Jennifer's BFF or maybe a lawyer co-worker at best. Just because she was on a shitty TV show doesn't mean anything, except that she was probably pretty cheap to get.

You could also argue that they probably should have gone mid twenties for She-Hulk's actress instead of mid-thirties (when Se-Hulk started she wasn't anywhere near a teenager but she wasn't a super experienced lawyer, and with the average law school graduate age being 26, according to google at least, that approximatewould probably have fit better), but that wouldn't really matter with a better actress. I don't even know who they should have gotten, but this actress is not it.

But, like I've said before, there is no actress on Earth that could save a show written by the writer of the worst Rick & Morty episode ever, so hiring a shitty actress t play She-Hulk probably saves Disney money. They put no effort into getting someone talented to make the show, so why waste a good actress on it? Hopefully its a one season show/mini-series, and in 10-20 years we can get an attempt to adapt She-Hulk with competent people and a good actress.

I think I am the classic definition of a “Lurker”. Mostly because I have little to share and sometimes I have even written full posts and deleted before sharing publicly. Usually because after getting it off my chest, I realize that it does not come of that well. Or that my opinion is not that important to get in back and forth arguments with anonymous strangers. So why start and waste the energy.

Than I see the direct opposite of me. Someone who posts look like an old man on the street who gives long winded speeches to people passing by because they think their opinions are so very important. Getting worked up about anything not directly tailored to them personally.

Drawing a blank on the name TJHOOKER6666 or DennyCrane44444...

Either way it’s a good reminder to login before I lurk here. Otherwise lurking while not logged in I am reminded of people I forgot I blocked. Blocking is so good you forget that noise even existed in the first place.
