Yes but also there is mention in the Phase II book that Ilia would also have been developed as an unofficial counselor whereas one of Chapel's areas of expertise was listed as psychotherapy. That's why I included them both on the list. It is also true that McCoy is a space psychologist as well of course.

The only reasons why I regret the story being taken from Rand are that having their emotions hollowed out by the machine could have been a good way to kill off the Kirk/Rand frisson and it would have been cool to have Rand kill someone who isn't on her own team.

Well, I suppose you could argue that the legal responsibility lay with Decker and Scotty for allowing use of the transporter while under repair, but the faulty sensor alone shouldn't have been the cause of the system failure. Maybe it was Keenser?

Plus there's the camera framing where she's about to kick the technician into the elecrical panel and she pulls her knees up to her chest. Wonder how Roddenberry got that shot past the censors in the 1960s.

So many people have this preposterous notion that the 60s TV censors were so prudish. There were girls in bikinis on lots of shows in the same period, so any TOS miniskirt with their matching danger briefs was fine by the standards of the day.

It's really not about that for me. Not even close. It's the vibrancy in her face, her expressions. Her character was completely in the moment, willing to enjoy things. She was confident and worldly enough to be amused and have some fun, where Kirk would have intimidated most crew women into toe-the-line seriousness. She got saucy and mischievous with Kirk, and had the charisma to get away with it. That was sexy.

Nope. In my 15 years on this board by far the majority of comments re the Noel character have done so with comments about her looks, her sexiness and oft accompanied by this emoticon.

As I and others have argued, that is not the only nor even the main reason nor even toward the top of list for liking Helen Noel. This seeing her panties things is such a red herring.

Nope. I just happen agree with T'Bonz on this and after15 years of it I'm as sick of Helen Noel as I am arguments about if the bridge viewscreen points forward.

Straight guys who drool over a woman are neither a protected or persecuted class.

As a separate matter, that Noels is the only woman in TOS to be shown killing an opponent during hand to hand combat is distinctive. Not quite the same as seeing someone at a console down in the phaser control room.

I would like to have seen more character development with the Klingons. More about their society and their honor. Kang was the most representative / best Klingon, although Kor wasn't bad, but Koloth was a fop.
On a side note...look how the Klingon Emblem is displayed sideways behind the Klingon Captain in Elaan of Troyius. I think this was the first time it was ever shown. I kind of like it that way - makes it look like a flying star.

Yeah, it was the first time the Klingon symbol that came to be used throughout the rest of the franchise was seen onscreen. Regarding TOS Klingons I'd have explored their culture a little more. I know this was the late 1960s and making exotic enemies on a television series more three-dimensional wasn't a thing but I'd have at least established the name of the Klingon home planet and seen Klingon civilians and other non-soldiers.
