To Robert Beltran's chagrin. He found playing Chakotay so torturous, he was desperate to leave the show.

Do you know what the Sunk Cost Fallacy is? Harry Kim didn't do anything worthwhile in seven years of television. He's not suddenly going to be a valuable character if you stick him in PIC. Don't throw good money after bad.

Tuvok would be well over a hundred years old as of PIC's time. And several decades have passed since his last onscreen appearance. So it's not exactly a stretch that he'd be an Admiral.

I think there's a case for Janeway coming back (How did Riker get processed so quickly back into Starfleet -- just in time to save Picard's butt?)

The thinking I've heard is that she has Picard's back behind the scenes (It wasn't by coincidence that Seven was at Vashti right when Sirena needed her.)

It's a shame Janeway didn't deliver the fucking hubris line.

Did he leave Starfleet for a few decades or did he piss someone off something fierce?

Of course, given all the time that's passed, Harry Kim might have made Lieutenant Junior Grade.

I don't think so. Timeless was an excellent episode of Trek and there were many other good moments with him.

Ann Magnuson made herself memorable in a single scene, and you just want to steal that and give it to Janeway? Nah. I really liked Clancy, and hopefully she'll appear in Season 2. Also, Magnuson was in a rock group called 'Bongwater', which makes me laugh.

Harry Kim was so useless that the producers were going to get rid of him after four years. He got a second chance. If Harry Kim appeared on PIC, that would be his third chance, and he'd still be awful.

Harry Kim was the most vital member of the Voyager crew. The Police Academy movies went enormously downhill when Steve Guttenberg left and yet no one had his character, Mahoney, as their favorite. However, that was because he had the thankless role of being the straight man.

Harry Kim was there so that there was someone to be bewildered, shocked, horrified, abused, and scared by all the terrible things that happened in an episode. He was the designated victim in the show as well as naive newcomer but that's what made an enormous number of those episodes work.

Well, sir, that's a fine observation, and I was never insightful enough to see that.

But...Elnor and Agnes are far better characters than Harry Kim, and they do all the things you mention very well, so there's still no reason for Kim to be on PIC...

I think Garret Wang could pull off some interesting new characters. I mean, he's now a man in his fifties and that's going to be a wee bit different than a shy ensign.

They should also let him direct an episode since he was the only cast member ever denied the episode.

Wouldn't really say Elnor or Agnes are as good as any of the characters on Voyager, they're just not there yet

Bongwater was an utter trip back in the day; saw them once play live. I also saw a solo VHS of Kramer (of Bongwater "fame") performing solo. I was tripping on acid at the time and his face is forever burned into my brain... that might be a good thing.

LOL, I guess Bongwater et al killed the thread. Here's the primo from Material (Laswell and Co.) an "associated" act (or maybe a precursor)-

I wanna see Janeway drop a speech like this on Seven:

"This appears to be a region of space that doesn't have many rules. But I believe we can learn something from the events that have unfolded. In a part of space where there are few rules, it's more important than ever that we hold fast to our own. In a region where shifting allegiances are commonplace we have to have something stable to rely on. And we do. The principles and ideals of the Federation. As far as I'm concerned, those are the best allies we could have." - Janeway Voyager season 2

^ Responding to that would be a good place for Seven to drop an F-bomb.

That's what happens when you get all but written out of a show that you have second billing in.

So...for thirteen years, the people of the Neutral Zone are terrorized while the Federation does absolutely nothing...and then a Starfleet officer thinks she can just waltz in and drop a sanctimonious, meaningless, hot air speech with zero self-awareness, and they'll all fall at their knees and suddenly start worshipping the Federation as saviours?

Actually, yeah...that would be totally in character for a Starfleet officer...

If you have second billing in a show for years, and you make such a dull impression, then some things just weren't meant to be.
