Man, the writer definitely knows where to poke fun of TNG era tropes.
I love how they poked fun of ST:TNG era fighting style with the OVER USE of the "Ax Handle" hits.
The 1st officer definitely over abused it during his fight with the big alien.
And the ridiculous speech during his fight.
I definitely love the Mariner jumping up and hitting those 4 aliens simultaneously using one of each limbs.
That takes supreme timing to get that.
And Boimler easily taking out all the invaders with spears using the common phaser.

The first officer said these aliens were joining the Federation? The spear wielding, crystal worshiping, theocratic capital punishment happy loons? Has the Dominion War really left us that hard up?
The funny thing about the spears is they clearly are energy weapons capable of defacing a starship's hull--it's just they only use them for stabbing and making crude graffiti.
