Also, I die a little inside when people say stuff like “Janeway should be the leader of the Fenris Rangers!” or “B’elanna and Chakotay should be in the Fenris Rangers!” Which of these would be better: (a) Seven feels disenfranchised from human society and the Federation, and so she joins the Fenris Rangers so that she can finally feel like she is doing something meaningful with her life, by helping others, or (b) Seven will apparently be joined at the fucking hip to the Voyager crew for the rest of her life. She joined the Fenris Rangers because Janeway/Chakotay I often get the feeling that some people think that Seven is just an extension of Janeway’s character, or an extension of their favourite Voyager characters. Essentially, they’re willing to compromise Seven’s story in Picard just so that they have an excuse for their favourite characters to appear. Well, sorry guys, but Seven has her own agency. The Fenris Rangers are part of her personal narrative, and the other Voyager crew shouldn’t get to take away blood from her story like that.
Yep. I totally agree with the general vibe of exploring the new characters primarily and bringing back the occasional other character from past Trek if applicable only. In addition to not repeatedly dredging up the past, a good thing in my book, it gives way more opportunity to open up new horizons and all the possibilities that go along with that.
Well.. Look at the timeline back in 2378. 2387 is boom boom. Rangers maybe start up a year latter? So 11-12 years of rangers, and not saying Seven was apart of them the whole time. And icheb happened in 2386. So seven had seemingly 7-8 years of peace after getting back.
She probably was trying to find her place. No doubt she tried her hand at cooking (working at Sisko's obviously), then trying out teaching, then reprograming moisture vaporators. It took a while and she never felt like fit in.
I think it's nice to get the characters back whenever while the actors are alive as long as it serves the story. Would hate to have missed out on Riker/Troi just because they want to avoid the past.
Added emphasis. More often than not the reason for characters coming back is because they were in Star Trek to begin with and...that's it. I mean, I get wanting to use known characters but give me a good reason. We're already drowning in fan service here
Usually it seems to work out nicely though doesnt it? The only time I can think of when bringing back a character was bad was maybe Tasha Yar coming back as Sela
Riker and Troi in Enterprise. I'm mixed on Scotty in Relics, and McCoy in Farpoint. I'm not convinced it is automatically a good idea.
While I'm in no particular hurry to see Chakotay return, I certainly do believe that a good story could be crafted out of it. As I said earlier, I would only want to see him if Seven and her Rangers got their own spin-off. I think an interesting story could be made with Starfleet and the Rangers coming to odds over some incident or another and Starfleet sends Captain Chakotay and the Rangers send Seven. A good story could be crafted around these old friends and allies coming to conflict with each other and their romantic past wouldn't even need to be brought up (although it probably would).
Riker/Troi are widely beloved characters, though. Seven is not an excuse for Trek's dullest, least successful characters to return. Starfleet could send an actual interesting person.
Cool story, bro. A lot can change in 20 years. Seven is proof. Maybe Chakotay isn't boring anymore. Maybe Iall Chakotay needs is a good writer to handle it.
Seven was always interesting, though. CBS Trek writers are not using their precious limited screentime to redeem one of Trek's most racist characters. He's a lost cause, let him go.
I think a lot of viewers liked Chakotay actually, he was there in all seasons for a reason. Now let's talk Harry Kim, I would love it if they did a follow up to Timeless where he is trying to change the timeline again to get Voyager home even faster, except this time Seven is tasked with stopping him. Maybe he needs tech from the borg cube in to get back and the Fenris rangers find him. Would be a great one off episode.
Admiral Tuvok, head of Starfleet Security. I totally called it. srsly, Tuvok would be perfect for that part. Cleaning up the mess Oh left behind.
