But, if she was a "competent Starfleet officer who knows what she's doing" she wouldn't have gotten him drunk considering the trip he was on.

I don’t think she brought the cups and Bloodwine. Turning down a Klingon Ambassador would’ve also been a bad move that you’d be complaining about now.

Trek has used "drunk" humor since day one. Officers getting drunk. Officers getting other people drunk. Virus that make people seem drunk.

Not what I'm saying!

Verbal and slapstick comedy clearly has no place in Trek. :p

Yeah, that's my fucking problem, the comedy.

I apologize.

I'm so, so, sorry for besmirching the greatness and perfectness of Mariner.

This is the first episode of Star Trek ever to show someone getting drunk. Gene’s ashes are ashamed.
Go watch TOS S2 "By Any Other Name" and see how absolutely wrong you are. And set episode was done when Gene Roddenberry was an active executive producer.

If it's any comfort remember that Dr. Bashir and Neelix started out FAR more annoying and spastic than they'd end up being and both improved as their respective series progressed. Any LDS character who's really over-the-top right now might be more sedate by Season 2.

Yeah, really not impressed with the show so far. And I'm not anti-CBS Trek, I generally liked Picard and thought Discovery S2 was one of Trek's better seasons. This just isn't fun for me. I'll still give it a few more episodes. Still better than the first half of TNG season 1.. so there's that I guess.

Day negative one if you count Forbidden Planet.

I'll give you Bashir, but if Neelix got less annoying, I didn't notice.

This episode was a little disappointing. Brad wasn't naked at all!

It's not looking great for LGBTQ+ main characters so far. Bi/pan sexuality still is on the table, but our four main leads have all been implied to have (at least) heterosexual attraction. Really hoping it's not relegated to background characters or the kinda trite my two dads or my two moms.

As, I think, I was the first to bring up the name Barnes as a human name in the other thread, I want to say it doesn't bother me at all. I was just speculating. The idea that Dax and Jadzia are human names too is uninteresting. In fact, I did meet a man named Dax once. I can imagine any of the aliens' names could be real names in any of the thousands of languages of Earth. I had already assumed that the name was unrelated to the character design as a real world explanation. That's boring. Ultimately, I don't care, and fully accept Barnes as a Trill name if that is what it is. It actually bothers me much more when characters who are clearly not white have European names (Tyler and Georgiou), and yes, I know there are plenty of reasons for a non-white person to have a European name (like the legacy of the African slave trade). It's just weird and, if I may coin a term, Euronormative.

Did anyone else catch the Epoch-class timeship parked in Little Qo'nos?
Oooh I love that ship and didn't see it... where exactly?

He had his pants down and only his dress shirt kept us from seeing things... if he had worn a standard uniform...

not to mention Sec 31 had been known a century before, so even if it supposedly did not exist anymore. people might have known about it once. NKVD, Stasi, the Frumentarii.. all long gone secret police agencies. But we know about them. Not ALL about them in some cases, but we know about them.
And what we see now is like finding out the Stasi or Gestapo were hidden in the beginning, then became widely known, then were officially dissolved but kept existing for hundreds of years in the dark, then were revealed again... XD

I totally missed the Evora!
I saw them immediately cause I like INS! :D

That or I have a brain tumor that's pressing on the language center if my brain meaning spelling and remembering words is a challenge for me and it's an unusual, uncommon, name that I've never seen before so it's going to come out how it's going to come out.
Just use BB for Brad Boimler.

We need a pinned thread for all the callbacks they do. It can be tough to keep up.
That would be great, a separate thread for eastereggs. One per episode, or one for all?

Certainly that is possible. Though, I think S31 has more places to hide and regroup.

It's the first shuttle lined up behind Mariner and Boimler as K'Orin is taking off with their shuttle. It isn't black like the Aeon, just standard off-white shuttle color, but it sure as hell looks like and Epoch. Maybe Braxton was up to some shenanigans in Little Qo'nos.
