Sisko helped to kill a Romulan senator and poisoned a planet, with nary a cross word from Starfleet.

At this point the Klingon poop humor is just what this show offers. It's not how I'd roll but the show looks right and feels right and so I don't mind a slightly off-color Star Trek comedy. It's not amazing Star Trek by any stretch but it's certainly nowhere near the cringe-inducing train wreck it could have been and I once feared.

It is, and I'm sorry for using it. But it just really seems like this show wants to present her as this perfect/awesome/great character who is always going to be right and make sure everyone around her knows it at all times.

He also wasn't an Ensign when we met him.

Mariner has had a lot of experiences but she doesn't have the humility yet to understand them beyond her age.

And I have issues with that, and is the reason why I have problems with DS9.

I gotta be honest. I was completely wrong about this show and am pretty fucking impressed with what they’ve done so far. It feels like Star Trek in a way I didn’t imagine it could. It is funny and has a warmth about it that I wasn’t expecting.

Life isn’t always strawberries and ice cream. Sometimes it sucks, even in the 24th century.

It has pretty dismal moments here and there but I don't feel any of the thudding disappointment I did with DSC. It succeeds as late 24th century Trek. It's late 24th century Trek with slapstick humor, but it's recognizable TNG Era Trek and for that I'll give CBS credit for getting a lot right that it could have gotten sigh-inducingly wrong.

She's far from perfect. She's very flawed. Awesome? Nah. Maybe in her own head. Great? Time will tell.
She was more than willing to take a hit on her rep to help out Boilmer. So gotta disagree.

I love that Mariner was having dreams about Khan. :guffaw:

Her behavior and antics caused him to feel that way on top of the entire way she treats him!

Which brings up a LOT of questions about how detailed Admiral Kirk's logs were.

Indeed. I fail to see Mariner as prefect-far from it. The fact that she hasn't faced consequences means jack shit. And arrogant? Holy shit! TNG had that in spades as did Kirk from time to time. Yeah, no way I can take this criticism seriously at this point.

Maybe Boimler needs to put on his big boy pants then, and show that he’s capable of more than reciting the Starfleet manual.

    Yeah, that's probably it.

I read another review that compared Boimler and Mariner to Amy Santiago and Jake Peralta on Brooklyn 99. There will be a time and place for everything.

I just have to say I love this show. Had very, very low expectations but it exceeds those by a wide margin. It’s not serious but I really need this right now. Love it.

    I wonder if Kirk/Finnegan wasn’t a partial inspiration for the Mariner/Boimler relationship.

It's goofy. It's dumb. It's colorful. It respects the history of the franchise.

    It's a fun series.
