The episode says she had been on grey ops missions with K’orin.

I gotta see it a second time.
After reading this thread, I realized I missed 3/4 of the easter eggs.
I must be getting too old for these kind of cartoons.

Didn't help that I tried to watch it at my sisters house while she was wet-vacuuming/cleaning her living room rug.

While being in hear early 20s.

    Makes perfect sense.

No, it's because she's a Mary Sue, Ms. Perfect and Great at Experienced at Everything with no flaws.

They sent Sito Jaxa on what would be a grey ops mission in the episode “Lower Decks”. She was only a year out of the Academy.

Alright, stop the clock-who had two episodes in before Mary Sue accusations arrived?

Even I don't see that as being the case.
(and I've missed plenty so far with my flimsy viewings)

She my have experianced a chit-load of stuff, but she obviously didn't come out on top every time.
PERFECT thy name is not Mariner.

Sounds to me like her parents, being a part of "Star Fleet's Finest", have bailed her out of more than a few scrapes.

If Mariner entered the Academy at 16, possibly finishes it in three years thanks to living on starships and Starfleet installations, she’s probably a year older than the rest, so 24.

That gives her five years of being in Starfleet. Plenty of time for an interesting amount of things to have happened.

She "suffers" from being a lead character, but since she's a woman she's a Mary Sue.

It's not a term I like or use often, and it may not be a perfect fit, but it seems like it's the angle they're going with on her considering she gets to cause the problems AND be the solutions to them and have no repercussions for her reckless actions.

I’ve been on the opposite side of this argument with Michael Burnham, and been corrected plenty. You’ll survive.

I have no problem with her being a female character. I have a problem with her being a loud and obnoxious character who's a source of grief for the other main character and her creating the problems in the episode and be the solution to them and for her actions to have no repercussions.

    6. Not as good as last week's episode but fun and funny enough that I liked it.

Yeah, no, it's a terrible term with no real meaning. It pretty much puts a sign on an argument that says "Don't take me seriously. "

Heh ... well like Burnham she IS the Star of the show.

To me that kinda-sorta goes with the territory.

Kirk has done the same thing on many an occasion, why does he get a pass?

None of which makes her a Mary Sue. Mary Sue is a loaded and sexist term.

Kirk entered the Academy in the Prime Timeline at 17 so it's definitely possible for a Cadet to be admitted at an age where modern humans would still be in high school. Nothing about her age bothers me.

Because Kirk showed humility and acknowledgment that he caused a problem he now has to fix.
