^ I do still plan on giving Lower Decks a chance.

Like I said, if LD tries even just a little bit to deal with serious issues, I'll be thrilled. Obviously this show is a comedy, but even comedies can play it straight when the situation calls for it.

Worked for M*A*S*H, didn't it? ;)

Me, I'm just not exactly a hundred percent in love with ANY show (animated or not) that basically turns Trek into a slapstick joke.

If Lower Decks (I'm way too old for Prodigy) is capable of playing it straight for at least a LITTLE bit, then I'm all for it.
Do you like Orville?

Less and less the longer it goes on.

A straight up Trek comedy strikes me as a terrible idea. An animated show likewise. awful googly eyed Rick and Morty character design and all.

Now despite this (and I admit it's a pile of preconceptions) I will try to give it a fair go - I've been surprised before ! The trailer didn't even raise a smile though. Grimace yes, smile no.

You would be surprised at what makes it into a kid’s cartoon. SpongeBob Squarepants is downright subversive at times.

Yep. I remember Plankton meantioning ‘foreign exercise videos’ his cousin sent him. ;)

I'm looking towards Lower Decks, but Prodigy has a lot of good points. It will be the first series (other than arguably Picard) to offer an insider's view of life outside of Starfleet. The travails of a younger generation, one not burdened by whatever happened to the previous (Dominion War? Klingon War?) could help inform where the storylines go. Antagonists outside the Federation or within the Federation's dirty underbelly will likely abound.

To say that I'm looking forward to Prodigy with everything they've revealed so far is an understatement. That show sounds amazing.

I think Prodgiy could be good even if it is aimed at kids, Avatar the Last Airbender can appeal to kids and adults and I think making a good Trek series aimed at kids is important. Lower Decks could be good if it takes cues from Final Space.

Don't know enough about Prodigy to say for sure, but it's supposedly aimed younger which is a turnoff so Lower Decks for me.

For now.

But really, could be anything.

I think since 1992, a lot of kids cartoons hold up today as good entertainment: Batman the Animated Series, Gargoyles, Avatar the Last Airbender, etc.

Lower Decks could be good if it takes cues from Final Space.

Honestly, neither. I love Discovery and Picard, but neither of these are of any interest to me.

Hope they do well, though, and both satisfy existing fans and bring in new ones.
What a rare and wonderful attitude! You are a unicorn these days.
