My niece is annoying me. She is upset that Coon Cheese is being renamed. I am waiting for her to explain how it can have any sort of impact on her life.

How old is your niece? Would her age have something to do with it?

from some of the stuff I see come across my facebook people, some people don't seem to get the issue.

Surely that's it's a racist slang for Aboriginals can't be the obscure?

and I see my old high school made the news in Adelaide by announcing it's going co-ed after 61 years.

Must have been a slow news day :)

No, age is not an excuse. She is 41.

At least we are not related by blood. She is my ex-husband’s brother’s daughter.

She knows the meaning the slang term but thinks the Aboriginal man who objected to it is being whiney. She thinks if she has to put up with being called a ‘carrot top’ than Aboriginals should be able to put up with a name.

Is you old high school a private or state school? My old high school is still single sex. It, and the nearby boy’s only school, are the only single sex state schools in Tasmania.

private Catholic school run by the Christian Brothers but how many brothers they actually have there I don't know. They were thin on the ground when I was there and that's 30 years ago now.

Mum's high school which was run by the Dominican nuns (think Brides of Christ for the sort of school and the era) went over had gone Co-ed by 1984

What will Coon cheese's new name be? Will there be a competition, could we have a Cheesy McCheese Face in the future on our shelves?

It was named after a man called William Coon, and the Cooning process fast-ages cheddar. But as often stated, words change, and sadly Mr Coon will be assigned to history.

I feel somewhat bummed out this happened.

I guess the packets will now be collector's items

Naaahh, leave them to the museums. It might appear a bit like you saying "I collect war memorabilia", then your friends noticing it's mostly SS stuff.

Yeah but even SS medals are worth big money, not that I would own any or have had any.. Just saying that even stuff from the other side of the war is worth it to collectors. But yeah point taken.

So, dunno if you heard, but two idiot bitches went from Brisbane to Melbourne, with the express purpose of stealing high-end handbags they could sell back in Brisvegas. Melb->Syd, then Syd->Bris, and on their return gave false names, then, for the next eight days, didn't self-isolate, and wandered all over Brisbane, until their tests came back positive. You can find their photoson news sites, they look like Kardashian wannabes who have had too much work done. Even until late today, one of them was refusing to help with contact tracing.

People here are furious that they have sabotaged border control and quarantine, putting it all at risk. Also, looks like the border is going to close again (due to other reasons), I'm angry because it's that much longer 'til I can see my son and fam in NSW (it wasn't going to be soon, but this has slowed it down), and DiL is cranky her dad can't come up.

Fuck this virus. This is getting old.

Fuck the idiots like those two idiots and all the people in Victoria giving false information at check points. WTF is wrong with you fucking people?

BTW from the TV show thread anyone here know of a series that was set I think in Australia with a replica of the Endeavour and they had a crew and a minisub and it was an adventure show.

    I literally copy/pasted this:

into Google, and the very first result it gave me was the Wikipedia entry for a show called The Ship: Retracing Cook's Endeavour Voyage. Is that the one you're thinking of?

No wasn't that, I knew of that one. It was like a weekly adventure series.

    Why?

I have had the extreme embarrassment of explaining this cheese to US relatives. Between that and them spotting golliwogs in the window of a florist well..
