It made 650 million dollars and is considered one of the most financially successful movie "flops". The problem was that it "under-performed" earning almost 200 million less than Wonder Woman. The studio wanted Avengers level money--and I believe the investment was quite high considering they apparently made two films.
Okay, I guess we used two different definitions of "making money". You, and maybe
@Mr. Adventure , used the phrase as in taking in money at the box office, while I used it as in taking in more money than was invested. And, yes, by the former definition, it definitely made money. The absolute minority of all movies, even big studio movies, have a box office of 650 million dollars. But, as you rightfully stated, considering the movie has a reported budget of 300 million dollars, and you've got to add roughly another 100 million for marketing to that, and considering the studio needs a movie to have a box office of roughly three times its budget to turn a profit, then, yeah, that movie lost money.
And I'm saying that as an absolute Justice League fan, who liked the movie enough to watch it four times in theatres. As somebody who's advocating for further ventures to bring the Justice League to the big screen. It's just, yeah, they bloated the budget, screwed up the marketing, and, I guess, too many people had either abandoned the franchise by that point, or were disappointed with the final product. My point is, the movie didn't
make money, it
lost money.
