Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

the Discovery sub is stopping at issue 33 due to the delay in Season 3.

I don't understand why this affects the subscription now. They still have 8 Klingon ships from season 1 and 3 (?) Section 31 ships from season 2 left to make, that's enough models for another year.

Probably because they generally weren’t received very well from the fandom. They already have released a couple of these models and I suspect they didn’t do as well as the Fed ships. Much up-front investment is required to get every model mastered and distributed. Their bean counters may have concluded it wasn’t worth their ROI, probably for the same reason that we haven’t seen any new Kelvin-era models either. It’s easy to blame everything on CV19 these days and all their stuff comes from China.

Maybe they have model and magazine for issue 34 manufactured and printed already and it is something from Season 3 that they are prohibited from spoiling?

That is possible, but in the past, they've just held off announcing future releases until they were ready. They've never done a "we're stopping at issue #XX" announcement before, unless it was specifically end-of-line, like #180 of the original line, for example. Otherwise, they would say, "we're extending to issue #XX" without saying what those ships are going to be yet.

And, historically speaking, since Eaglemoss' communication skills outside of the usual 2-3-times-daily spam emails are generally abysmal (as in, nonexistent), when they actually do come out and say something of substance regarding the state of the products, you can be pretty sure that's the guaranteed gospel.

That discussion also came up in the Facebook group! There were counter-arguments.

I am guessing here, but I think the problem was that the Klingon DSC ship was not selling has well has the federation, why suddenly we got alot more of the federation ships and the the DCS D7, because that was classic Klingon design. So be interesting …

  • Klingon ships have released on a steady pace every 2-4 issues since beginning. I don't get the "they did not sell well" comments. If they did not, we would not have gotten 7 already which is about a third of the collection. And there are still 3 to go we don't know about

I just remember reading somewhere that DCS Klingon shops where not doing anywhere has well has DCS Federation ships. which would make sense, there was a big backlash towards the klingon ship designs, even thought there where really cool designs.
They also did change some issues that was first shown to be klingon ships into Federation ship issues.

it never came from EM, all speculations and rumors mostly from haters. the only time Ben talked about a ship not selling well was for Captain Proton Ship.
And the issue switch was only between issues 3 and 4 and was due to manufacturing delays which EM confirmed.

but this being said, Fed ships will always sell more than any others. That was also true of the regular collection

Yeah, it comes down to simple numbers. If the Klingon ships sold better than the Fed ships, there would be more of them available. It is pretty much just that simple.

My retailer finally got a number of ships in. Now I’m only missing 3 released main line ships: the Melbourne, Excelsior Concept III, and the Karemma.

Vulcan TMP shuttle is coming Wednesday.

I finally got my XL K'Tinga, and I have perhaps a stupid question. (Or one that has already come up.)
The magazine features several (CG) shots with the ship wearing the front "bling" from the Kronos 1 variant. I'm hoping this error popped up because there is actually a K1 in the cards...anyone know anything? Or have info that shoots a hole in my hope?

The ship already looked like the Kronos One variant in the 2013 magazine. I read somewhere that EM originally intended to make that version, but in the end the licensor decided that they should do the regular one instead.

Honestly, I'm glad they did the regular one (I was a little confused by the magazine pictures as well), although I'm disappointed we never got the Kronos One version in another separate release. We have like ten different Miranda class variants, some from single blurry one-off distance shots from DS9, but K1 was one of the main ships in TUC and a very visually interesting (IMO) and prominent upgrade to one of the most recognizable ship designs in science fiction history. May yet still be a smaller special in the future, as they clearly have the mesh for it, but not any time soon, it looks like.

If Eaglemoss doesn't think those designs will sell well enough to justify the investment to make for the store, then sorry Disco fans, I suspect there is near-zero chance we'll ever see the remaining unreleased house ships.

As indicated above, there are some unique designs among the remaining Klingon bunch, particularly the vaguely Egyptian Sech-class and the steampunk-like Batlh class.

I assume Eaglemoss holds the licence to produce Discovery (and Picard ships) because the Microflyer company dropped out early and DSC and PIC designs are not printable in STO.

I want to see that XL Prometheus class and Delta Flyer that were in the survey make an appearance. The XL Discovery and Shenzhou are a waste of time in my opinion.

Does anyone know if the window alignment on the XL Discovery is any better than on the standard ship. I have the standard ship, but the alignment is truly terrible and ruins the model. The K'Tinga is by far the best XL IMHO.

I expect a few more of those season one Klingon ships will get sprinkled into the mix along the way, but they wouldn't do more than 1-2 a year. Since three of the missing ones look pretty much like Qoj-class variants I'd assume they'll do the other more distinctive ones first.

Ending at 180.

Specials will continue roughly every three months.

Edit: the email from them says 180. It feels like more...either way, it’s done, last numbered shipments on way apparently. They thanked me for my loyalty.
