Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

But I wonder which version is accurate to the original studio miniature? The early concept sketches show the long nacelles, but I don't know if the final filming model was built to these exact specifications.
I'd assume ILM took molds of the Enterprise's nacelles (or reused the original molds if they could be found).

Possibly, but to determine the length ratio we'd also need to know the size of the saucer section.

On the Eaglemoss Reliant models the nacelles are 80% the length of the saucer; on the Lantree, Antares and Reliant concept it's 87%.

Ya know; the USS Zheng He has actually grown on me a little, and I wouldn’t mind picking it up, TBH...

I still don’t know what I think about it as a design: on the one hand, I don’t hate it, and can see a rationale for a standardised ‘one-design’ starship, that the Federation could use (and it’s nice to see a different, new design)... on the other hand, I don’t love it either and find it difficult to like aspects of what it’s doing, visually (especially the subtle nacelle changes, which don’t amount to much of a variation from the other configuration).

It’s occupying a weird ‘design purgatory’ for me, one which the Discoprise also inhabits (although admittedly the Discoprise is a better realised design, and one which I much prefer, in comparison to the Zheng He).

[so much internal conflict!] ;)

I don't know. I'm glad they are continuing doing models, but looking back on the first season of Picard I'm not sure which of the ships I would want to own as models. Maybe one or two of the Romulan ships. And if the La Sirena model looks nice maybe that one as well. But other than that I found the ships to be rather forgettable and/or fugly.

I mean, how did “Seven's Fenris Ranger” even look like? I don't remember it at all and googling it just now doesn't reveal a look at the ship.

Do you remember the classic Klingon BoP used to represent the massive K'Vort-class battlecruiser in TNG's "Yesterday's Enterprise?" Micheal Okuda had built a brand-new Klingon model ship for the occasion! Alas, it was not detailed enough to be used.

Now, Okuda has found a photo and posted it on his Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Michael.Denise.Okuda/posts/3136396856397847

Fittingly, the USS Buran is up for pre-order on the UK website, together with the Aliens Armored Personnel Carrier (AMC) wheeled vehicle. Next up on the Join Waitlist section is the Doctor McCoy bust.

Good morning!

XL Voyager is u recently 50% off in the UK store.

Thanks to Colin Merry for bringing it up.

I'm sorely tempted by that XL Voyager, but the terrible window misalignment puts me off (see Irish Trekkies review). Also, the huge panel gaps between the plastic and metal parts are a problem. Anyone tried scraping off the original window paint and fixing it?

Shuttle set 2 also features a heavy discount:

Honestly, that's a steal! The XL-Voyager is a beautiful model. It's perfectly sized, pleasantly weighty and features all the important details. There is some window misalignment on my model, but it never bothered me all that much. So yeah, I can definitely recommend buying it. :bolian:

It's been over a month since I got a new model. (The last the LONG overdue TOS Romulan BOP I got from an eBay dealer overseas). So, I headed over to the nearby store yesterday. Just trying to support a local business. :)

There wasn't anything there that I didn't have that really excited me. (I'm hoping to find a Prometheus for a reasonable price at some point). Still I wanted to get something. I gave some serious though to either the Devore ship or Gomtuu (and I'll probably get both at some point). He also got in the Arcos and the Xindi-Insectoid scout (which I'll probably also get at some point) but I ended up getting one I know had been sitting on his shelf for a while: The Orion scoutship from "Journey to Bable".

This is one of those rare ones where the dimensions require a more cube-shaped box. The scale is still rather small though. It's certain a much more alien design than the Klingons or Romulans. The ring at the back reminds me of the Vulcan ships from "Enterprise". I actually wasn't sure which side was up, until I noticed a bit of detail on the front section. It's a pity the parts inside the ring don't rotate, but that would probably be prohibitively expensive (like Voyager's moving nacelles).

Not one of the iconic designs, but I'm glad to have it.

Something about the blockiness of that model seems like it would be better suited for the pre-TOS era. However, I would have preferred that to reusing the BoP model as a larger ship. That always seemed particularly lame, would have preferred the K'tinga if they needed a model with more detail.
