Reproducing Trek costumes: for a beginner

AmbreP

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
I have some experience making costumes for myself for my SCAdian historical educational activities. But I find myself obsessively watching the new kelvin movies because I want to make a medical variation of the survival suit because well doesn't everyone like the pine/chekov jacket?

so one I need a pattern for the jacket and have no clue how to make modern clothes with modern materials. I have only make things for myself, an overweight female. I am never making a full elixabethian from corset/fathinggale out ever again....not even for myself no matter how many complements and offers I got. Show some guys a bit of boobies.......even if they never looked at you before or would give you a second glance otherwise,,,'nough said. It one thing in a group but I would be by myself....alone.

Anyway I might eventually figur out the jacket because I have done some origami but even once I figure it out after a couple of years.....how on earth can I make a medical tricorder and the white case (I know its a gun case but I;m not a gun person.....).

Can anyone give me a place to start or clues?
I want to be properly dressed. I am firmly determined as a second generation trekker/trekkee to finally go to a con .As crafter I need something to keep myself busy during covid/corona as no one hiring disabled people in my area in the near future, and I need a project to stay sane/focused as I live alone out in the middle of no where. I minored in silversmithing/lapidary stonecutting in college, but only have basic EQ like a flexshaft and have not soldered anything like fine metals since college 15years ago. I want to advertise so I can find my people as it were, and I want to be decently accurate as I can be, but on a severely limited income, but I want to make the tabletop character I played for years.......

i don't even know where to go to research, as I can hardly go to the local library for material.

Help please, if possible.

every place i looked online for fans...had had nor posting for more thatn 5-8 years...so if thats where you think might be appropiate...go for it.

I would suggest looking at Simplicity-type patterns to at least get an idea of how to structure the jacket to fit you, including bust darts, that sort of thing.

@AmbreP For future reference you might consider looking at the Replica Proper Forum under Replica Costumes (link). and Screen Used Costumes and Props for reference (link). I don't see any Star Trek Beyond stuff at the moment, though.

Awesome video on a DIY version and it looks good. And yet it's taking Anovos five years plus to get me my replica that I paid for. Yeah, I'm running out of patience. But not to derail the thread.

Other than Maurice's suggestions, there's a large costuming community on Twitter and Instagram. Just be sure to use the hashtags #StarTrek #StarTrekCosplay #Cosplay #Cosplayers. Maybe you can find help there!
