My drawings of the TOS ENTERPRISE

I am not in TAPATALK. You are welcome to post this link and this short introduction on my behalf if you want. Thanks in advance.

Jim Botaitis drew this. He was guided by 3 criteria:
1. The details visible on the 11-foot studio model of the ship,
2. The details of the ship as described in the Writer's Guide (from THE MAKING OF STAR TREK),
3. The details seen or heard in the original 79 episodes.

I made a thread directing people to your site. Thanks for the hard work and permission to share it with others.

Additional thought: interesting idea to have the shuttlebay support compartment under the flight deck have its own "heavy lift" hatchway.

I'd say that for a crew of 200 (April-Pike) to 430(Kirk), I'd be surprised if ships of that class needed more than one lane for their bowling alley. Assuming the crew as assigned to each ship was sufficiently interested.

But we can make allowances for different ships of the same class. Constitution herself might have had a six-lane alley - per Franz Joseph - when she was first commissioned, for example...however far back she was actually built.

There is a bowling lane, beside the pool on Deck 21. Just one lane.
Jim, thank you very much for putting the effort into this and sharing it in formats that are easily used. I've loved Trek deck plans such as yours ever since the Tech Manual back in the '70s.

I'm delighted to find that I still "wander the decks" and imagine cool scenes acted out on sets that were never built. I spent a ridiculous amount of time working out ways to get from the innermost starboard cabin on ring 2 of deck 6, counting from the center, to the port-side counterpart! I imagined two, star-crossed lovers trying to maintain a 'long-distance relationship' even though their cabins were only a few meters apart. Curse that turboshaft!

Outstanding work. In another thread, I talk about my model collection and the TOS Enterprise is one of my favourites. It's just a classic design. Its simple, elegant and totally functional. The model I have is by Corgi. The cutaway is amazing btw.

On my deck 6 layout I have cross-connections to reduce that kind of problem. I don't think I can attach images yet (being so new here) but you are welcome to send me an image if you see 2 quarters that are "far" apart ... separated by a turbo-elevator shaft, or a wall, etc.

Excellent work! It got me digging out my old deck plans to see if I can get inspiration to fix up some of the holes I left out of my designs. Most of my frustrations/conflicts are due my plan to incorporate more set "accurate" designs plus working around/within my own theories as to the outer hatch functions, episode deck dialog references and signage, and my locations of the Engineering Rooms complete with curved corridors in the Engineering Hull. Thanks.

A Friendly Visit
Late one evening on Stardate 3336.9, Ensign Sonia Forbes answered an intercom hail from Ensign Brooks. That Ensign Brooks. The one who had been intruding on her thoughts the last two weeks. The one she kept staring at when she thought no one was looking. A chance encounter yesterday during a depressurization drill gave them a few minutes to talk and she'd been grinning ever since at the realization that Brooks shared her interest.

Her heart pounded as she was invited to Brooks' cabin. A quick glance at the Master Deck Plans revealed that she was not only on the same deck as Brooks, but only a few meters away. How romantic! But that thought withered at the sight of the turboshaft separating them. I'll have to take the long way around! The extra distance added to the urgency and, after quickly checking her hair and uniform, she dashed out the door of her cabin. (a)

(b) It struck her that she had two cabin-mates who might hear her running if she wasn't careful. She trusted Hayward's discretion, but Statmore treated gossip like candy and shared it liberally with everyone. Half the ship would know what Forbes was up to if Statmore found out! So she hit the brakes and tiptoed until she passed their shared bedroom.

(c) Forbes couldn't resist a tinkling laugh as she hurried along to her rendezvous, but (d) had to cover that with a cough as she worked around an environmental maintenance crew trying to secure an O2 leak at the next corridor intersection.

Once past that obstruction, she sprinted, and (e) nearly collided with a laughing group of crewmen stumbling excitedly out of the turbolift. "Hey, Forbes! Where's the plasma leak?" one of them shouted teasingly. She didn't know who it was, she just laughed an embarrassed apology and tried to keep her pace to a fast walk until they were out of sight (f).

(g) The corridor ahead was clear, with no one to block her, so she kicked into a fast run and bolted around the curving passage. She let another laugh tinkle from her mouth and--

(h) --abruptly ran into Lieutenant Kev. Kev came up the intersecting corridor carrying two handfuls of data cartridges, a couple readers, and a notepad; all of which went flying on impact!

"I'm sorry, Lieutenant! Here, let me help" Kev looked completely disoriented and soon started mumbling his own apology for being too engrossed in his work. Forbes knew she shared the blame, but she let the lieutenant believe what he would. "I'm sure we're all like that now and then. Is that all your cartridges," she asked as she handed him the tapes she'd collected. Not that she waited for an answer, she was already moving on, sparing quick glances to make sure the bewildered Kev was steady on his feet.

(i) Closing now on her destination, she realized Brooks likely had similar quarters to her own, with two sleeping cabins separated by a shared office, so she again slowed to a quiet tiptoe until she arrived at Brooks' quarters.

(j) Her eyes fixed on the door chime and suddenly she realized how disheveled she must look. And she was panting! That wouldn't do! She walked in circles as she calmed her breathing and brought her appearance under control. Cool and calm. It's just a friendly visit!

Help Ensigns Forbes and Brooks find better routes for rendezvous on Deck 6!

Hmmmm, why not turn left at (d), then turn left st the intersection, than take the turbo-elevator across the main shaft to the port side. Turn left at the intersection, turn left at (h), and there she is! In his arms.
That *is* shorter, but just how quick are turbolifts? Or, as McCoy says, "Who's been holding up the damned elevator?!"

With those 4 storage spots (ES) for spare turbo-elevators just a few meters away, I imagine the wait will only be a few seconds. ;-)
But to paraphrase Dr. McCoy, "Is Forbes' hair regulation?" ;-)

Not by the time she made it to Brooks' cabin by her circuitous route!

Once again, thanks for these plans!
