Movies that never were... Or things you wish were movies.

Has anyone on here read any of these? I think they would make good movies or mini series.

Level 7 by Mordecai Roshwald

Time Out of Joint by Philip K. Dick

About the Author by John Colapinto

Resurrection Day by Brendan DuBois

I finally finished reading the entire Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff today (which my avatar is from :D), and I'd like to think it would make a good movie adaption if it were done well. I think it's an interesting fantasy universe and has a good cast of characters.

One more the Hard Luck Hank series by Stephen Campbell.

The Spider series by Grant Stockbridge and Norvell Page.

The Shadow series by Walter Gibson

Darkman with Liam Neeson again.

Also a shameless plug from me for my friend writer P.J. Lozito for the Silver Manticore available on Amazon as books. For a movie version.

My vote for movies there too.

Encounter with Tiber by Buzz Aldrin and John Barnes. Would love to see this on a screen someday. It has one of the best depictions of an alien species that I've ever seen. Apparently there had been a production in the works at some point, but I'm not sure what happened to it. But this would be seriously epic, especially in light of the recent SpaceX success.

The Pern books would be good, I read those to death at school. Dragonriders of Pern, what great fun that would be as a movie, spaceships and dragons, and it was fun.
Whatever happened to the CW series that was supposed to be in the works?
I remembered another one I forgot to mention before, the Kate Daniels series. I love these books, and they would make an awesome series. I would definitely prefer a series since this is a longer series with some pretty complex worldbuilding that movies just wouldn't be able to get as deep into as a series could.

I only read the first two or three books, but my brother has the entire 'Incarnations of Immortality' series by Piers Anthony. Although I think that it might be better suited to a multi-year series on HBO where each book would be covered in a season and the various incarnations would pop in and out as needed.
I remember that in the first book, 'On A Pale Horse', the incarnation of Time showed up, then in the following novel dealing with Time, 'Bearing An Hourglass', Death showed up and some of the events of 'On A Pale Horse' were replayed through 'Times' perspective.

Oh and John Wyndham's The Chrysalids....... That book will forever be one of my all time favourites. It needs a huge movie to make it good and be faithful to the book. I'd pick someone like James Cameron or Ron Howard.

There have been several attempts, but so far, none has got off the ground.
Out of all Anne McCaffrey's works, I think that The Ship Who Sang and its sequels might be among the easier works to adapt to a visual format. Something called The Ship Who Sang has been announced, but I don't know if it has anything to do with Anne McCaffrey's story.
I would also really like to see an adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke's Rama books. The visuals would be stunning.

Would love to see someone film Harlan Ellison's script for I, Robot. Done right, it could be an amazing film.

Wasn't there a British miniseries done years ago? It was a two-parter from what I remember, unless I'm just totally misremembering it for something else.

Not sure, I've also heard this but never seen it. Though in the 90s I did watch Tripods and that was rubbish

I'm not sure if that's what I watched, but now it's going to bug me until I find out what it was lol. Oh wait, It was Day of the Triffids :D So, totally not Chrysalids, haha. And I see that was back in 2009. Didn't realize it was that long ago.

Oh, so many books that could provide the basis for a movie or series:

The Foundation series by Asimov.
Rendezvous With Rama by Clarke.
Friday by Heinlein.
The Pern books by McCaffrey.
Ringworld or Known Space by Niven.
The Telzey Amberdon stories by Schmitz.
The Haviland Tuf stories by Martin.
The Priscilla Hutchins novels by McDevitt.
The John the Balladeer stories by Wellman.
The Jules de Grandin stories by Quinn.

Off the top of my head. :rommie:

If they did do Ringworld I'd love to see how they conceptualize those guys with only one leg, can't remember the actual species name but they moved around on only one leg if I remember right.

A Foundation series has been in the works for Apple. I believe they were in the middle of production when the pandemic hit, so like many other productions, they've had to halt.
It's been in development several times over the years. HBO had it for a while. Even though I listed it, I have serious doubts about the possibility of anyone being able to do a worthwhile adaptation, or even a spin off set in that universe, these days.

Would love to see Stranger in a Strange Land adapted. Too bad though that Tom Hanks is too old to play Michael.
