Yeah, members should just stop making critiques and accept how great it is. Alex Kurtzman is GOD and can't do no wrong. Why critique perfection?

I've observed that a lot of people tend to get spun-up about stuff that really doesn't mater.

It doesn't matter but people can discuss their opinions even if some people don't like what's written. Can a thread be aloud to have such a spun-up turn of differences? If a person don't like what's mentioned then don't surf the thread, no point in being upset because someone has an opposite view, and having arguments about the topic is not going to change another's views. Just go to the threads that praises its brilliance. Its out there.

It's not a matter of love. It's a matter of what is available for me to consume. Even if I hated Discovery that doesn't eliminate my love of TOS.

Also, GR was the first to discard TOS for visuals so with his rationale around Klingons, so it is neither new nor offensive to me. If I ignore DISCO then I still enjoy TOS and vice versa.

My observation is that too much emphasis is being put on canon and not enough on enjoyment.

Yup. That's exactly what we said...

And members should accept its no longer 1966 anymore, the world has changed, TV production has changed and Gene's vision was never a divine mandate.
Why wear rose coloured glasses about a fifty year old TV show?

Are you looking for an Amen corner, that X type of Trek is the only one that is brilliant and all new versions stink? I don't think its that type of forum, for every positive view expressed there will be an opposing one and vice versa.

ENT, the Kelvin Films, and DSC haven't changed what I think of TOS. SNW won't either.

But, if it helps to know, I'm more interested in PIC and the third season of DSC. Nothing against SNW, but it feels like "been there, done that." Going from TOS to TNG to VOY to the first two seasons of ENT, the trend for Traditional Trek is downward. Strange New Worlds is a return to Traditional Trek. It's going to come down to the execution.

"You'll love it anyway!" Not necessarily. I might, I might not. I have yet to rewatch any of the Pike-centric Short Treks, even though I liked them. But I've probably watched "Calypso" -- my Gold Standard -- at least 10 times.

If anything, I should be accused of thinking "Michael Chabon is God and can do no wrong!"

Funny that, since the franchise changed when the producers wanted it to change. TOS is different from TMP which is different from TWOK, and the franchise still survives!

Yes, but for some reason that change is completely acceptable while this new change is not. The baseline attitude of the producers is the same-because we can and we live in a new age regarding tech. But, while GR and Nick Meyer are given accolades upon accolades Kurtzman is regarded as a Nazi white supremacist who burns TOS DVDs while plotting to delete all of the fan fiction.

Oops, went a bit hyperbolic there ;)

Give it another twenty years and Kurtzmann will be knighted and sainted and the new kid on the block sentenced to the Tower! Off with his/her head/their head!

(Nothing new under the sun, cloud, moon or stars, absolutely nothing!)

Nah, Kurtzman is the new Berman, the whipping boy for every fault, deserved and undeserved. Others will be praised for what goes right.

How does that relate to fictional universes?

There's no requirement that you subscribe to what some fans see as Star Trek's basics.

Star Trek is owned by the Redstone family, and their employees can do anything they want with it without concerning themselves with what came before and you can love every second of it. That's your option.

While others can perfectly legitimately lament the disappearance of something that has been an important part of their lives (in some cases) for half a century. And also advocate for it's return, if only in spirit.

    More like:

Yeah, members should keep making reasonable critiques and keep them in perspective. Alex Kurtzman is human and doing the best he can with a difficult to please fan base. Why expect perfrection?

But you seem to be offended when I'm offended by these revamp interpretations. Visual mediums will always have such disparities in tastes, and I'm more than happy to ignore DISCO as well as PIKE. If I happen to watch it I will give my thoughts on it and compare it to what I know; I wish something could be worked out where there was some respect to what was done in TOS. It can be seen as an alternate universe and fans who love these things? Go for it but don't be mad because other fans don't see it as such and show sarcasm because it doesn't fit your so-called enjoyment to them. I don't troll the threads who love these horrible things but you and some others believe its okay to troll where they're threads that don't like your enjoyment of these CBS ALL ACCESS masterpieces. You can carry on but it won't stop people from expressing their disappointment of your series of enjoyment.

    Or better:

Lets outlaw any form of disparaging critiques because it bothers the masses who love Alex Kurtzman's Star Trek because its the only form of Star Trek there is right now and they have to have it in their lives. So don't say anything which would be offensive to this humanistic work of art from a matter of perspective.

    Just like Rick Berman:rolleyes:

    Offended? No.

I don't care if people don't like it. But, the opinion that Discovery is removing TOS from canon is an absurd statement at best. And, I'm sorry but I don't see it as disrespectful either. I find GR's POV more disrespectful than Kurtzman to TOS, treating Klingons as though they always were that way.

Regardless, nothing affects canon. TOS exists. Just like the command uniforms were green. They didn't stop just because of what people said.

Art is a reflection of the culture in which it is done.
