Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Confirmed.

Since this is CBS, I think they're trying to use the model they used for CSI and Law & Order and applying it to Star Trek.

So they'll ramp up the number of Star Trek series until they fill up the year. Then they'll continue to try to ramp up their non-Star Trek material. If Star Trek views go down, while their other programming on CBSAA goes up, then fewer Star Trek series will replace the Star Trek series that end, until they're back down to one or two, then they'll keep going with one or two forever... or at least until they don't think it's feasible.

I think 2020 is like 1993. Or 2021 will be like 1993 if Covid-19 screwed that up.

I don't understand what people mean by moving forward. If the Enterprise goes to planet TrekBBS to meet the BBSers and a crew member violates one of their laws by offering his right hand instead of his left hand to shake which is punishable by death and the captain chastises these BBSers about how backward they are before everyone flies away and we never hear about TrekBBS ever again, does it matter if the captain was Archer, Pike, Kirk, Picard or someone new?

You have a point.

Precisely.

Bryan Fuller’s original pitch for a new Star Trek series was an anthology series. e.g. first season could be Discovery, second season Picard, third season Pike and Enterprise, etc.

So we are getting something like that but better, as multiple series.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds script written by the fans:
"I'm Captain Christopher Pike of the Starship Enterprise representing the United Federation of Planets. I bid you and your people greetings."
"Leave us be, Captain Pike. We don't want to interact with your Federation until at least the year 2399. Preferably later. Just come back in the 25th century or something."

An anthology series was the first thing that Fuller and Kurtzman bandied about for what DSC could possibly be, but that notion was quickly vetoed and so they moved on to create what we know as DSC.

It's therefore misleading to claim that DSC was originally intended to be an Anthology series.

Though I really like Anson Mount. He was pretty awesome in Hell on Wheels and of course he was the best thing about Discovery... for me anyways. I just wish the franchise would move forward already. This will be the fourth series (movie and tv) that we have seen now with only picard moving the franchise forward. We know Pikes eventual fate and they will have to adhere to continuity when it concerns Spock. Too bad Anson wasnt chosen to play a lead in a show set during Picards era. I would have liked to see a show with an all new cast of characters. The bright side is these shows dont get long runs on pay per platform's. So maybe one day we will get a full run show again. Though it's looking do doubtful we will get any new network stuff.

You have already have Star Trek Picard, isn't it? It is a move forward era.

"Also be on the Enterprise-F and Captained by Worf"

the anthology series was nixed because of the high costs for sets/cast and it's too frequent turnover I believe. Could have been cool though.

Anyway very much looking forward to SNW.
I'm still not convinced with DSC but maybe they'll improve with their creative freedom now.
Don't have any interest in S31, if it's the DSC version/characters. Also I'd rather have Fenris Rangers than PIC 2

Ah, Star Trek fandom, where moving forward means telling the same stories in the exact same setting and with largely the same group of characters (because we don't need fleshed out characters, we need positions in a crew to be filled in), only with a different - but not too different - aesthetics. See, the Enterprise-H, which is naturally the biggest, strongest and fastest ship in the entire fleet, has ablative armor generators instead of deflector shields, chroniton torpedoes instead of quantum torpedoes and its phasers are Type XXIV instead of XII like in the 2370s. The middle-aged white human Captain wears green instead of red, the Starfleet Delta on his combadge is now sideways and his rank pips are rectangular instead of circular, not to mention that they're worn on the right breast instead of the collar. Also, there is a Cardassian on the bridge and the backlit computer graphics now feature hexagonal designs next to their random numbers. See? Totally different, Star Trek has moved forward!

What a beautiful example of a repetitive epic. Garak would be an instant fan.

To be honest, Discovery has already made me interested in an era that I hadn't really cared about before (pre-TOS 23rd century) in its first season, and the addition of Pike, Spock, Number One and the Big E in the second one has only served to make me want more of it. They were all great characters played by great performers, I've found the Enterprise to have been beautifully updated as well, so it's natural I'd love to see their adventures. I was overjoyed to hear the confirmation that just because Discovery left for the future, the 23rd century won't be forgotten for long.

Anyone here point out that it makes sense if Spock knows about Pike's accident prophecy?

If Pike relates the accident prophecy to Spock, it would make the events of The Menagerie make a little more sense. Spock sure whipped a plan together quickly. It was dangerous and carried the death penalty. Something that should have taken quite a time to ponder on.

Nothing about anyone knowing about that makes sense. Dr. Boyce would be screaming at Pike to leave Starfleet immediately (the vision clearly shows Pike still in Starfleet).

No it actually doesn't. Spock would either become overprotective, or look for ways around the "destiny." It would make more sense that Pike kept it to himself, as he was told it was for him alone.
