Love them. If Trek isn't working for you, maybe move on to something else. There's loads more Trek shows coming (Lower Decks, Section 31, Strange New Worlds, Prodigy, Starfleet Academy etc) but it's all from the same creative team so you probably won't like them either.

    That would be a no.

For the first time I’m really enjoying Trek since the late 90’s and peak DS9. I was so disenchanted with Voyager and Enterprise on first airing that I gave up after a few seasons (five for Voyager, three for ENT). Did I become a bitter nerd spending endless hours splattering my disdain and disappointment across the interweb, or worse, making Youtube videos about how Star Trek sucks? Nope, I simply moved onto different shows that I did love. Farscape, Stargate and BSG come to mind. In my view, Trek needed a long break because, post-DS9 it had become weak and tired compared to other contemporary shows. I didn’t make a song and a dance about it, it just was as it was (in my view).

Now, regardless what a vocal section of the fandom thinks, Trek has successfully reinvented itself for the contemporary streaming age and, although not perfect (which era of Trek was perfect? In fact what, if anything, is perfect in life?), I find myself eagerly looking forward to each new episode. that’s enough for me. Can’t wait for DSC season three now.

You've probably heard this before, but you really should give Enterprise season 4 a chance.

Children of Mars on the other hand was cheap and cliche. Short Treks does vary in quality quite a bit.

I voted no. It is a product of now. It is like many other serialized series of this time in tone and themes.

I find most things not that good. Both these shows disppointed. DSC 1, was just Bad except for Lorca, which they then ruined imho. S2 started good, then the showrunners yelled (yelled! how mean) at people and got fired and it turned into convoluted defeat-the-AI-from-thefuture-with-very-dull-protagonist. At least Pike/Spock/Ent got launched and seems to be continuing.

Man, did I want to like PIC. I thought it would be more drama, less pew pew (WHAT was I thinking, seriously? Whoops.)
. . . and frankly, I thought better written, I mean the dialog, which so often fell down to the level of Trek dialog instead of new-golden-TV-actually-GOOD-writing. All in my opinion. It had the Trek ethos going esp at the end. I need to remember that. But if "felt" production-wise, very generic sci-fi. And certain Borg were wasted. With Chabon running it and following his Calypso I was expecting greatness (and isn't it usually our expectations that cause us most grief?) and got mere decent-ness. Thus my "disappointing" verdict.

Couldn't make it past the pilot of Discovery, which worries me for Picard, though it does have a better overall look and it is Sir Patrick--so might give it a go after finishing off Killjoys and catching up with The Expanse.

Discovery made me interested in watching Star Trek again and has kept me interested as has Picard. In fact Discovery is only behind DS9 as my favourite.

So no thy are not "bad" Discovery and Picard are worthy additions to the franchise and have helped reinvigorate it.

Watched some Discovery and Picard, they were not for me....although i did like Pike and his crew and the Enterprise when they appeared, for all that we saw of them, but it seemed enough for me to be interested in them.

All threads Captain Clark has made on this site so far, he’s never actually followed up and posted in them himself.

    Odd.

IMO, ST works best as a reflection of what is going on presently in pop-culture, which is why DISCO should have been a post-NEM show. Otherwise, I would rank DISCO as one of the better shows.

PICARD, on the other hand, was a disjointed mess, script-wise. Putting aside my distaste for the gratuitous violence and F-bombs (hey, I'm a traditionalist, when it comes to FAMILY-oriented entertainment), the show seemed to rely on fan service to prop up the script, and the introduction of the new characters seemed lacking in some spots.

Still, I do see some potential in the direction of both shows, and will check them out again in the future.

I think Discovery is a good SF show - just not a good Star Trek show.

Picard on the other hand is a good Star Trek show - but really not a good show in general...

I do like the Short Treks though - I wish both series were more like them. There are good and bad shorts, but I think in general the story-telling (the biggest weakness of both shows) improves immensely once nobody has to worry about mystery boxes to stop the destruction of the multiverse, and the writers instead can focus on "just" a simple, understandable problem at hand.

All new Trek is immensely well produced (some weak cgi ship assets aside), amazingly well acted and IMO also generally well written in (terms of normal dialogue). It's just that the main stories sucked balls so far, which kinda' ruins the overall impression.

They are good but flawed. Not the best thing on TV, but good enough to get excited to watch them every week.

Yeah, it's the only reason I bare with it was because of Mr. Stewart and my love for his work on TNG. The look of the series PICARD is fine, but the science is off and the themes themselves from episode to episode just isn't Star Trek. Maybe season 2 will explore new lifeforms and social commentary themes and show a brighter future than what the Alex Kurtzman's Trek has been. Very bleak.

Not bad overall, but they do have problems. Picard may have poorer special effects compared to Discovery, but feels more Star Trek and has a more coherent story line. Take away Pike, Spock and the Enterprise and Discovery may as well be a generic sci fi show that has the Star Trek label slapped on it with boring characters and a bland protagonist.

To rate them against other Trek series, I'd put Discovery and Picard alongside Voyager and Enterprise as being the worst Star Trek series.
